Objective:To investigate the learning curve of PEG procedure.Methods:153 cases of PEG candicates chosen from the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University and the Fujian Province Tumor Hospital, were divided into two groups,GroupⅠfrom 2000.1 to 2004.12,GroupⅡfrom 2005.1~2009.12. All parameters including operative time, intraoperative and postoperative complications, length of hospital stay and total cost were compared between two groups. Results:In GroupⅠ,there were 53 cases from 2000 to 2004, successful rate was 96.2%; GroupⅡhas 100 cases from2005 to 2009, successful rate 99%.Operative time decreased from 37.30±7.45 min to 26.44±5.73 min. Hospitalization time fell from 450.83±499.38 h to 271.57±304.91 h. The total cost declined from¥10665±8791.9to¥8028.5±7580.06. Complications dropped from 9.8%(5/51) to 4% (4/99). In operation time GroupⅡwas significantly shorter than that GroupⅠ(P< 0.05), and postoperative complications of GroupⅡwas significantly lower than that groupⅠ(P< 0.05), comparisions of hospital stay and total cost in two groups were no significant difference (both P> 0.05), but two parameters in GroupⅡwere still lower than those in GroupⅠ.Conclusion:The learning curve of PEG shows that with the number of patients increased and the procedure technique improved by physicians, operative time, intraoperative and postoperative complications were significantly reduced(both P< 0.05);the length of hospital stay and total costs were decreased although with no statistical differences (both P>0.05)...
