Objective:1.To describe kidney donors'quality of life and mental health status;2.To identify related variables influencing their quality of life and mental health status, and to provide reasonable methods for improving their QOL and mental health status.Method:We investigated 103 kidney donors who accepted the living kidney transplantation in our hospital. Those kidney donors completed a questionnaire that included socioeconomic variables, SF-36, SDS,SAS and SSRS scales.Scores of their SF-36,SDS and SAS were compared with that of norm.T test, X2 test, Pearson correlation, Spearman correlation, liner regression were used to analyze the data, case-control study was also performed.Results:1.Compared to general population, kidney donors had significantly higher scores in RE, MH, VT, GH and social support of SF-36.(p<0.05),and had significantly lower scores in SDS and SAS (p<0.05).2.Correlation analysis shows that age of kidney donors was negatively correlated with PF, RP, RE, SF, VT, BP and MH, indicating that older kidney donors had worse quality of life (p<0.05);Gender of kidney donors was negatively correlated with PF, RE, VT and GH, indicating that male kidney donors had better physical and mental status(p<0.05);Donor-recipient relationship was negatively correlated with all 8 fields of SF-36,indicating that the closer relationship, the worse quality of life of donors(p<0.05);Educational level of kidney donors was positively correlated with PF, RP, SF, BP, VT, MH and GH, indicating that the higher educational level of kidney donors, the better physical and mental status(p<0.05);Marital status of kidney donor was negatively correlated with GH, RP and VT, indicating that unmarried kidney donors had better general health (p<0.05);Time after operation was positively correlated with GH and RP, indicating that the longer time after operation, the better health status (p<0.05);Economic level of kidney donors was positively correlated with PF,RP and BP, indicating that the better economic level of kidney donors, the better recovery of bodily functions (p<0.05);The scores of SDS and SAS were negatively correlated with all 8 fields of SF-36,indicating that kidney donors with depression and anxiety symptoms had worse quality of life(p<0.05);The scores of social support, subjective social support and availability of social support were positively correlated with all 8 fields of SF-36, indicating that the better social support of kidney donors, the better quality of life (p<0.05);The score of objective social support was positively correlated with RP, RE, SF, VT, MH and GH (p<0.05);Age of kidney donors and donor-recipient relationship were positively correlated with the scores of SDS and SAS,indicating that the older and closer donor-recipient relationship, the worse mental health status of kidney donors (p<0.05);Gender and marital status of kidney donor were positively correlated with the score of SAS,indicating that female kidney donors being married were more prone to anxiety(p<0.05);Educational and economic level of kidney donors and the scores of social support, subjective social support, objective social support and availability of social support were negatively correlated with the scores of SDS and SAS, indicating that the better socioeconomic status and better social support, the better mental health status of kidney donors(p<0.05).Gender was negatively correlated with the scores of social support, indicating that male had better social support (p<0.05);Donor-recipient relationship was negatively correlated with the scores of social support, subjective social support, objective social support and availability of social support, indicating that the closer relationship of donor and recipient, the worse kidney donors'social support (p<0.05);Educational level of kidney donors was positively correlated with the scores of social support, indicating that the higher educational level of kidney donors, the better availability of social support (p<0.05).3.Multivariate linear regression was performed. Among kidney donors, psychological factors (especially anxiety) and social support (especially subjective social support and availability of social support) were most important risk factors of QOL and mental health; Social support and donor-recipient relationship were most important risk factors of depression and anxiety;Donor-recipient relationship were most important risk factor of social support.Conclusion:1.In China, kidney donors mainly come from rural areas, older, female, low education, low economic level, close donor-recipient relationship;and this part of the donors'QOL and mental health is relatively poor.2.The social-life events may affect kidney donors'mental health status, that strength followed by recipients'health status, recipients' family and economic status, kidney function after kidney transplantation, donors'family and economic status, donors'health status, and the impact of life and work in future.3.Kidney donors'QOL, mental health status and social support were better than those of general population.4.The factors related to kidney donor' QOL were various, psychological factor (especially anxiety) and social support(especially subjective social support and availability of social support) were most important among these factors.5.Kidney donors'mental health status were influenced mainly by social support and donor-recipient relationship.
