Object:To analyze the clinical characteristics of the primary mixed lung cancer, and discuss the clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Methods:The clinical data such as sex, age, smoking status, clinical symptoms, anatomical position, diagnostic methods, therapeutic schemes, survival time, etc of 92 patients with primary mixed lung cancer who received treatment from 1999.1 to 2008.12 in Xiangya Hospital Central South University were analyzed. Results:In patients treated as lung cancer in past 10 years,4.99 % of them were primary mixed carcinoma. The main histologic type was adenosquamous carcinoma (75%), the secend was adenocarcinoma combined with alveolar carcinoma (6.3%).Most of the cases whose smoking index>=400 were men(98.4%). The number of female and male patients was 75 and 17, respectively. The age range from 29 to 74 with median age was 56.1, and patients predominantly falled in the age range of 50-69. The cough and expectoration were the most common clinical manifestations of the mixed lung cancer. The mass located in the apicoposterior segment of upper lobe and the back segment of lower lobe mostly.According to TNM classification,1 cases classified in stage I, 15 in stageâ…¡,53 in stageâ…¢and 23 in stageâ…£.84 cases have been followed up:one-year,two-year and three-year survival rates were 51.2 %,16.7%,7.1% respectively. Conclusion:The clinical characteristics of the primary mixed lung cancer as follows:1. Most of the patients were the old men with long-term large smoking shows that the mixed lung cancer maybe smoking related lung cancer.2. The main histologic type was adenosquamous carcinoma, the secend was adenocarcinoma combined with alveolar carcinoma, and the others were rare.3. The mass always located in the apicoposterior segment of upper lobe and the back segment of lower lobe.4.The detection rate was far lower than the true value because of the limiting of the sampling method and the pathological diagnosis.5.The mixed lung cancer was easier induced to metastasis and the prognosis was poor. The prognostic determinants are age, stage, advantage histologic type and surgical operations.
