Objective To evaluate bone age standard for children and adolescents, and investigate the characteristics of the changing tendency of the skeletal development of adolescent in LuLiang area, and provide reliable data for the study on forensic medicine and the estimation of bone age.Methods Totally seven hundred and fifty two helaty boys and girls(379 males and 381 females) at age 7 to 19 years of age living in LuLiang area were enrolled in this study, and x-rays of their left hands-wrist were taken at the posterior-anterior position.The bones at hand-wrist were scored according to the Chinese Wrist Skeletal Development Sadtandard CHN Method. Then to calculate skeletal age, and to analyze the correlation of skeletal age and chronological age and the gender difference of skeletal age.Then the linear regression analysis was performed between skeletal age and actual age.The linear regression equations for age estimation was produced based on the data of skeletal age and actual age.Result Skeletal age had highly positive correlation with chronolog-calage age:male, r=0.993 (p<0.01); female,r=0.971 (p<0.01); totally, r=0.969(p<0.01).Two regression equations were obtained in this study.Each equation has been checked by analysis of variance of linear regression model and proved to be appropriate in statistic(p<0.01).The correlation coefficients respectively were 0.993,0.995 and the standard errors were 0.048,0.034.Conclusion The skeletal development of adolescent in LuLiang area has the characteristic of acceleration. So it is necessary to establish a new skeletal age standard for the skeletal development of adolescent so that more reliable data could be helpful in forensic practice for estimation of accurate criminal age in adolescents. The regression equations obtained in this study could be used for age estimation of the people in LuLiang area.
