Objective To assesses the status of of skeletal development ofadolescent in Yantai area, and investigates the characteristics of thechanging tendency of their skeletal development, and provide new datafor the new standards of skeletal age of adolescent.Methods Totally 1369 healthy adolescents (671 males and 698females) at 7 to 20 years of age living in Yantai area were randomlyselected, and their left wrist were radiated at the posterior-anteriorposition. The bones at wrist were scored according to the Chinese WristSkeletal Development Standard CHN Method, Then to calculateskeletal age, and To analyze the correlation of skeletal age andchronological age and the gender difference of skeletal age.Results: Skeletal age had highly positive correlation with chronologicalage:male, r=0.943 (P<0.01); females, r=0.942 (P<0.01);totally, r=0.942 (P<0.01)Conclusion The skeletal development of adolescent in Yantai area hasthe characteristic of acceleration. So it is necessary to establish a newskeletal age standard for the skeletal development of adolescent.
