Objective:To investigate association between smoke and carotid intima-media thicknes (IMT) of Chinese Han and Uighur and Hazakh adult population in Xin jiang, and difference of carotid intima-media thicknes between three nationality. Method: Fourstage selected random samples age 35 and over were used to analyze distributing feature of carotid IMT in different smoke situation, nationality, age and gender. Multielement stepwise regression analysis were used to analyze influencing factor of IMT.The sam-pled were collected from Chinese Han and Uighur and Hazakh adult population in 6 locality of Xin jiang. The proportion of male to female accounted for 50% each. Results:The carotid IMT of smoke groups and quiting smoke groups was thicker than nosmoke groups after adjusting age and gender and BMI through covariance an aly sis.The carotid IMT were 0.78±0.21,0.76±0.28 and 0.66±0.26mm in Hazakh, Han, Uighur and Hazakh population, there was statistics difference between three groups(P< 0.05).Conclusion:Smoke is risk fact of increased carotid IMT in Chinese Han and Uighur and Hazakh adult population. The carotid IMT in Uighur is the thinnest in three gender because the smoking rate in Uighur is the lowest. The carotid IMT in Hazakh is the thickest in three gender because the smoking rate in Hazakh is the highest and blood pressure in in Hazakh is the highest.
