Objective 342 cases of constipation were examined by colonoscopy, of which 148 cases were followed up. The relationship among constipation and bowel disease and anthraquinone laxatives were analyzed.Methods Colonoscopy results for 342 constipation cases of Department of Gastroenterology, Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, and Department of Gastroenterology, Fourth Hospital of Changsha City between 1996-2005 were summarized. We analyzed retrospectively data of 148 cases who had been in 1-3 times for colonoscopy review. Age, sex and taking anthraquinone laxatives history of the cases were recorded about their first colonoscopy. Histological type, diameter, number of polyps for constipation patients combined with colorectal polyps were recorded. Review was observed when colorectal polyps, colorectal cancer, and melanosis coli were diagnosed. The relationship among constipation and bowel disease and anthraquinone laxatives were analyzed.Results 1,A total of 342 constipation cases of colonoscopy and 148 cases who received colonoscopy review were analyzed retrospectively in the study. We found 102 cases of colorectal inflammation (29.82%),23 cases of colorectal cancer (6.73%),34 cases of melanosis coli (9.94%) and 39 cases of colorectal polyps(11.40%). There were 26 cases (66.67%) of adenomatous polyp in colorectal polyps and 21 cases (53.85%) of polyp which diameter were less than 0.5cm and 28 cases (71.79%) which number is one.2,Constipation male patients compared with female has a higher rate of colorectal cancer and colorectal polyps (P<0.05).3,Colorectal polyps colorectal cancer and melanosis coli incidence in patients with age above 60 years were higher than those in less than 60 years (P<0.05).4,Constipation patients who had a history of long-term use of anthraquinone laxatives compared with those not taking laxatives had a higher rate of melanosis coli, colorectal cancer, colorectal polyps (P<0.05).5,Tracking in more than 5 years duration compared with in the course of less than 5 years of constipation cases had a higher rate of colorectal polyps, colorectal cancer, melanosis coli (P<0.05).Conclusion 1,Colorectal polyps, colorectal cancer and melanosis coli incidence in patients with age above 60 years are higher than those in less than 60 years.2,Constipation patients who had a history of long-term use of anthraquinone laxatives compared with those not taking laxatives has a higher rate of melanosis coli, colorectal cancer, colorectal polyps.3,Constipation of more than 5 years duration compared with less than 5 years has a higher rate of colorectal polyps, colorectal cancer, melanosis coli.
