Objective To describe the detection rate of overweight/obesity and hypertension in college students through this cross-sectional and retrospective survey, and to investigate the differences of early nutrition factors between overweight/obesity and normal college sudents. The differences of early nutritional factors between hypertension and normal college sudents were also analyzed. Through this study, we can propose theoretical and practice basis of preventing from suffering from obesity and hypertension.Methods The participants were selected by cluster sampling from a university in hefei city, all the eligible freshmen were included in this study. Then the investigators were trained qualified to conduct a questionnaire survey. Participants'general characteristics, birth weight, early nutrition status, dietary behaviors, health-ralated behaviors, family general characteristics were obtained. Height, weight and blood pressure were maesured. The BMI(body mass index) was calculated according to height and weight information. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 11.0(statistical package for social sciences). Analysis of variance or two-independent-samples t test was used for comparison of mean value of BMI and blood pressure among different groups. Chi-square test was used for comparison of detection rate of overweight/obesity,hypertension among different groups. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to explore early nutrition factors of overweight/obesity and hypertension.Results(1) The average age of 1824 participants was 18.91±1.00 years old, with the minimum of 16 years old and the maximum of 25 years old. 838 were men and 986 were women. The average BMI of participants was 20.64±2.66 (kg/m)~2, with the minimum of 14.6 and the maximum of 36.9. 33 were obesity(1.81%), and 161 were overweight(8.83%). The average of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were 112.71±12.33 (mmHg) and 67.74±7.93 (mmHg). 44(2.41%)were hypertension, 524(28.73%) were of higher blood pressure, 1256(68.86%) were of normal blood pressure.(2) ANOVA or two-independent-samples t test was used to evaluate the differences of detection rate of overweight/obesity among groups. Gender, residence, birth weight, only-child status, development status from 5 to 6 years old, 11-12 years old, exercises, body type, occupation and educational level of parents affect the detection rate of overweight/obesity(P<0.05).(3) The influencing factors of detection rate of hypertension were gender, exercises, fruits intake, birth weight, BMI, BMI changes from birth to adulthood, where the differences were significant (P<0.05) .(4) The binary logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate early nutrition factors of risk of overweight/obesity. And they were development status from 11 to 12 years old, body type of parents, educational level of mother.(5) The binary logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate early nutrition factors of risk of hypertension. The influencing factors of hypertension was BMI changes from birth to adulthood. Men was associated with increased risk of hypertension compared with women(OR=0.154).Conclusion It was demonstrated that development status from 11 to 12 years old, body type of parents, educational level of mother were associated with an increased risk of overweight/obesity. BMI changes from birth to adulthood, gender were correlated with an increased risk of hypertension. Men was associated with increased risk of hypertension compared with women. Body type of parents was important to predict offsprings'risk of overweight/obesity. Childhood obesity have an considerable influence on adult obesity and hypertension.
