ObjectivesTo investigate the status of nutritional knowledge(K),attitude(A)and practice(P)and body diathesis in college students of nursing major and analyze the association between nutritional KAP and body diathesis in the students. To provide the reference for further health education, emphasize on nutrition knowledge in college students.MethodsThrough cluster sampling, total of 1278 students(freshman, sophomore, and junior)major in nursing were investigated using self-designed questionnaires regarding nutritional KAP.According to the standard of physical performance test(revised in 2014)for Chinese college students, the running speeds of 50 meters and 800 meters, standing long jump, vital capacity, and sit-ups were tested in the students. The data were analyzed using SPSS17.0 software. The nutritional KAP score and body diathesis,as well as their association between different grade students were compared.Quantitative data comparison between groups was analyzed using t test, and numerical data were analyzed using ?2 test. The comparison among more than three groups was conducted using analysis of variance.Results1.Nutrition knowledge score: the average score was 10.1±3.2(the total score was 20).There was significant difference between different grades(P<0.05),the correct rates of answering question were between 19.5% and 87.5%.The main factors influencing the nutrition knowledge score were location of family living and parents' dietary habits.2.Nutrition attitude score: the average score was 31.0±5.1(the total score was 46).There was no significant difference between grades(P>0.05).The main paths to get nutrition knowledge were from TV(81.1%),medical books(69.6%),and internet(69.2%).The major factors influencing the nutrition attitude score were location of family living and monthly expenditure in food consumption.3.Dietary practice score: the average score was 12.3±4.4(the total score was 20).Unhealthy dietary behavior including skipping breakfast(61.4%),late dinner(67.2%),low frequencies in consumption of soy products(89.5%),dairy products(87.3%),and eggs(83.3%),but high in snacks(79.4%).There was significant difference between grades(P<0.05).The main impact factors on nutrition attitude score were location of family living and parents' dietary habits.4.Test results of body diathesis:BMI: The average BMI of the students was 20.9 ± 2.9.The percentages of emaciation, normal, overweight, and obesity were 15.8%,71.4%,9.9%,and 2.9% respectively. The average vital capacity was 2582.2±597.6 mL.The substandard rates in running of 50 meters and 800 meters, standing long jump,as well as sit-ups were 26.7%,37.6%,34.7%,and 32.0% respectively.5.Association between nutrition KAP and body diathesis: nutrition knowledge was negatively correlated with BMI,while nutrition knowledge and practice were positively associated with body diathesis in the students.Conclusion1.The students of freshman and sophomore have relatively poor nutrition knowledge and practice scores, the later mainly presents as skipping breakfast, late dinner, frequent snacking, and lower soy and dairy product consumption.2.The students generally have positive nutrition attitude with no significant grade differences.4.Emaciation and obesity are the major factors affecting the students' body diathesis. The nutrition KAP score is positively associated with body diathesis in the students.
