Estrogen is a female hormone, produced by the ovaries and placenta. Adrenal can also produce a small number of estrogens. Estrogens include natural estrogens, semi-synthetic estrogen and synthetic estrogen. Natural estrogens include estradiol, 17βestradiol, estradiol benzoate, estradiol valerate, estradiol cypionate, conjugated estrogens, estriol; Semi-synthetic hormones include ethinyl estradiol and nilestriol; Synthetic estrogens include diethylstilbestrol and chlorotrianisene. Common formulations of estrogen medications are injections, capsules, creams, tablets and aerosols. Estrogen with biological activity is a steroid hormone, mainly produced by ovary, follicle, corpus iuteum and placenta. It can be used for prevention, diagnosis, disease treatment and help the body return to normal state. Therefore, determination of estrogen on gynecological diseases is very important.Flow injection chemiluminescence is an automating monitoring method with high senseitivity, wide linear range, and simple apparatus. The method has unique advantage in inorganic analysis, drug analysis and environmental monitoring. Flow injection chemiluminescence for the quantitative analysis has great importance. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part describes the principle and characteristics of the flow injection chemiluminescence method; introducing the research and applications of some common chemiluminescence system in drug analysis, food analysis, environmental analysis. The second part is using KMnO4-Ru(phen)3Br2-Na2SO3 system respectively determine prednisone, progesterone, estradiol valerate, levonorgestrel. It is found that in acid conditions, KMnO4 can oxidate Ru(phen)3Br2 and produce weak chemiluminescence. Prednisone, progesterone, estradiol valerate, levonorgestrel in the presence of sodium sulfite can be strongly enhanced under conditions of potassium permanganate - phenanthroline ruthenium chemiluminescence signals. Accordingly, , chemiluminescence method are developed for the determination of prednisone, progesterone, estradiol valerate, levonorgestrel respectively. Under optimum conditions, linear ranges of prednisone, progesterone, estradiol valerate, levonorgestrel linear range are respectively: 4.0×10(-102.0×10-7 g·mL-1, 1.0×10104.0×10-8 g·mL-1, 1.0×10104.0×10-8 g·mL-1, 2.0×10-91.4×10-7 g·mL-1, the detection limits are: 4.5×10-11 g·mL-1, 7.1×10-11 g·mL-1, 5.6×10-11 g·mL-1, 5.9×1010 g·mL-1, and the chemiluminescence mechanism is discussed. In sulfuric acid medium, cerium (IV) sulfate and rhodamine B can produce strong chemiluminescence after the injection of estradiol. Based on this, a new CL method was developed for the determination of estradiol using flow injection chemiluminescence analysis. Under optimum experimental conditions, the linear range was from 2.0×10-7 to 1.0×10-5 g·mL-1with a detection limit of 1.7×10-8 g·mL-1 (n=11) for estradiol and the relative standard deviation was 1.2% (c=1.0×10-6 g·mL-1, n=11). The proposed method was simple, rapid and reproducible and has been applied to the analysis of synthetic samples with satisfactory results.A novel flow injection cheluminescence method has been developed for the determination of diethylstilbestrol in alkaline medium, based on the inhibition of diethylstilbestrol on the chemiluminescence reaction between luminol and K3[Fe(CN)6]. The reaction conditions have been discussed and optimized in the paper. The linear range of determination is 4.0×10-81.8×10-6 g·mL-1 for diethylstilbestrol, the detection limit is 7.6×10-9 g·mL-1, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) (n=11) is 2.1% for 1.0×10-6 g·mL-1 diethylstilbestrol. The method has been applied to determine the content of diethylstilbestrol in medicine with satisfactory results.
