Objective: To investigate the relationships between the osteoprotegerin gene T950C and G1181C polymorphisms, blood lipids, bone mineral density and carotid artery plaque formation in postmenopausal women, so that to explore the relationship of osteoporosis and carotid artery plaque formation. Methods: (1) Selecting 236 unrelated postmenopausal women, and dividing the subjects into the following groups according to lumbar bone mineral density and carotid artery color Doppler ultrasound: normal group 54 cases, carotid artery plaque formation group (CAP group) 44 cases, BMD decreased group (BMD group) 77 cases, BMD decreased with carotid plaque formation group (BMD/CAP group) 61 cases, and then detecting the osteoprotegerin gene T950C and G1181C polymorphisms and serum osteoprotegerin concentrations so that to compare the differences of four groups;(2) Selecting 292 unrelated postmenopausal women, and dividing the subjects into the following groups according to lumbar bone mineral density and carotid artery color Doppler ultrasound: normal group 50 cases, carotid artery plaque formation group (CAP group) 50 cases, BMD decreased group (BMD group) 118 cases, BMD decreased with carotid plaque formation group (BMD/CAP group) 68 cases, and comparing the differences of blood lipids between normal group, CAP group, BMD group and BMD/ CAP group. Results:â‘ Comparison of the T950C genotypes and alleles frequencies between normal group, CAP group, BMD group and BMD/CAP group showed no significant difference (P>0.05);As for the G1181C locus, the frequencies of GG genotype and G allele in BMD group and BMD/CAP group were higher than that in normal group(P<0.05), but the comparison of the G1181C genotype and allele frequencies between CAP group and normal group showed no significant difference (P> 0.05);â‘¡The serum OPG concentrations in normal group were lower than that in each of CAP group, BMD group and BMD/CAP group(P<0.05); The serum OPG concentrations in BMD/CAP group were higher than that in CAP group(P<0.05),but the comparison of BMD group and BMD/CAP group showed no significant difference (P>0.05);â‘¢Comparison of TC, HDL, LDL, APROA and APROB in four groups showed no significant difference (P>0.05); TG in CAP group and BMD/CAP group were higher than that in normal group(P<0.05), but the comparison of TG in BMD group and normal group showed no significant difference (P>0.05),and the comparison of TG in CAP group and the BMD/ CAP group showed no significant difference (P>0.05).Conclusion: Don't think that the T950C polymorphism of osteoprotegerin gene is related to lumbar bone mineral density or carotid artery plaque formation in postmenopausal women. Don't think that the G1181C polymorphism of osteoprotegerin gene is related to carotid artery plaque formation in postmenopausal women, but it is related to lumbar bone mineral density. The postmenopausal women with GG genotype suffer from decreased lumbar bone mineral density easily, and the risk of suffering from decreased lumbar bone mineral density with G allele is 2.79 times with C allele in the G1181C locus. The concentration of OPG increased is related to lumbar bone mineral density decreased and carotid artery plaque formation, and it can be the common risk factor of lumbar bone mineral density decreased and carotid artery plaque formation. Don't think that blood lipids are the risk factor of lumbar BMD decreased patients combined with carotid artery plaque formation.
