The "Xiao-Ke" disease is a common disease in Tranditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria, weight loss are the typical symptoms. Generalized "Xiao-Ke" disease include diabetes, diabetes insipidus, psychic polydipsia and polyuria, etc. The object of this study is limited to diabetes. In thousands of years of TCM practice, a comprehensive understanding of etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment of the "Xiao-Ke" disease has been formed. But the theory of constitution in diabetes is not mature.Constitution and the incidence, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis of disease and syndrome, and prevention are closely related. The study of constitution is of great application value. Studying constitution may be conducive to prevent and treat diseases. By review of modern researches, it can be seen that the modern research of constitution and diabetes has been gradual, multi-faceted, but there is still room for development. The theory of S i x-channel of physical capacity is proposed by Yuanrang Zheng, and enriched by Jinxi Zhao. The study of Six-channel of physical capacity of diabetics is of great theoretical and clinical value.ObjectiveTo find out the distribution of the six types of constitution in diabetes, and to find out the relationship between various factors and the six types of constitution, in order to provide theoretical guidance for the early prevention and treatment for diabetics.MethodsWe design the questionnaire as a reference to the standard from Association of Chinese Medicine "TCM constitution classification and decision table". Diabetes patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were investigated, the findings were dealt with through statistical methods. In 92 cases,54 cases are of a single type of constitution,38 cases with combined constitutions.6 cases (6.52% of all)are of Taiyang type,7 cases(7.61%) are of Yangming type,11 cases (11.96%)are of Shaoyang type,9 cases (9.78%) are of Taiyin type,13 cases (14.13%) are of Shaoyin type,8 cases(8.70%)are of Jueyin type.8 cases(8.70%)are with Taiyin combined with Shaoyang type,14 cases(15.22%) are with Taiyin combined with Shaoyin type, 6 cases(6.52%) are with Taiyin combined with Jueyin type,5 cases(5.43%) are with Shaoyang combined with Jueyin type,5 cases(5.43%) are with Shaoyin combined with Jueyin type. Therefore, the main constitutions of diabetes can be summarized as follows:6 cases (4.62% of all)are of Taiyang type,7 cases(5.38%) are of Yangming type,24 cases (18.46%)are of Shaoyang type,37 cases (28.46%) are of Taiyin type,32 cases (24.61%) are of Shaoyin type,24 cases (28.46%) are of Jueyin type.So the main types of 92 diabetics are Taiyin type, Shaoyin type, Shaoyang type, Jueyin type. After the statistical analysis, the X2 test shows a significant difference between the different age groups in their Six-channel constitution distributions. Taiyang type, Yangming type Shaoyang type are mostly under the age of 50, Taiyin type, Shaoyin type, Jueyin type are mostly over the age of 50. Specifically, There is no significant difference between the BMI in any two types. There is significant difference between the frequency of diabetic nephropathy (DN) in different types of diabete patients. Shaoyin type is more likely to develop DN. There is no significant difference between the frequency of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in any two types. There is no significant difference between the frequency of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in any two types.ConclusionThe main types found in diabetics are Taiyin type, Shaoyin type, Shaoyang type, Jueyin type. The occurences of Yangming type, Taiyang type are low. Shaoyang type, Taiyang type, Yangming type Shaoyang type are mostly under the age of 50, Taiyin type, Shaoyin type, Jueyin type are mostly over the age of 50. Shaoyin type is more likely to develop DN.
