ObjectivesTo objectively assess the efficacy and enhance the deduction of Niaoxue mixture.MethodsExperiment A:Retrospectively studied 70 patients (13 males and 57 females) diagnosed as primary glomerular hematuria in our out-patient department on order to observed the distribution pattern of TCM syndrome and the efficacy of Niaoxue mixture.Experiment B:I examined if the efficacy and the deduction of Niaoxue mixture were associated with the reduction of the expression of MCP-1 and C3 in glomeruli. I studied five groups of rats in which chronic serum sickness(CSS) nephritis were induced by injections of BSA:one group treated with a high dose of Niaoxue mixture(10.8ml/kg. d. BSA. Xuenaioan capsule group. n=5), one group treated with a low dose of Niaoxue mixture (5.4ml/kg. d. BSA. Xuenaioan capsule group. n=5),one group treated with Xueniaoan capsule (0.378g/kg. d. BSA. Xuenaioan capsule group. n=5), one gro-up received no treatment (BSA. CSS group. n=5). And additional group of five rats(control group) received only phosphate buffer.ResultIn experiment A, the highest probability (44.28%) in the TCM syndromes of primary glomerular hematuria was found in Spleen-Kidney qi deficiency syndrome, and the lowest (1.4%) in Spleen-Kidney yang deficiency syndrome, while qi-yin deficiency syndrome and Liver-Kidney yin deficiency syndrome were with the same proportion as 22.86%. In the accompanying syndromes, damp-heat syndrome was in the most common with a proportion of 68.58%, while blood stasis syndrome and dampness turbidity syndrome were the same as 15.71%. BLD of urine sediments waw reduced from 3+-4+to 1+-2+after the therapy with Niaoxue mixture(P<0.05) with a total efficiency ratio of 72.97% compared with 42.42% in the control group(P<0.05). It was found that Niaoxue mixture had its curative effect in reducing BLD of urine sediments in the cases with mild lesions in the glomeruli, such as minor lesions of chronic glomerular nephritis and IgA nephropathy HassⅠ. (P=0.085)In experiment B, the urine protein excretion was different from the control group to the other groups, But there were no differences between the medical treatment groups and the CSS group,as well as the renal expression of MCP-l.Cell numbers per glomerular cross—section and the C3 deposition decreased in the CSS.Niaoxue mixture group.ConclusionNiaoxue mixture can reduced the BLD of urine sediments and the efficacy may be relevant with the C3 deposition decreased in the glomeruli.
