Objectives:1) To manage the health of pregnant women by means of network platform, to improve the health of pregnant women, and to promote the health of mother and baby.2) To evaluate the effect of health management and verify the effect of network platform in the health management of pregnant women with the following indicators: caesarean section incidence, incidence of anaemia in pregnancy, birth weight, breast feeding rates, incidence of postpartum depression, the average length of stay and hospital fees, etc.3) To develop the extension service of network medicine, to provide effective health management approaches for pregnant women, and to provide the basis for future development of network hospital. Methods:During the period from December 2009 to December 2010, in a First-Class and A-Level hospital,177 pregnant women, who took the antenatal check-up in the obstetric department and met the inclusion criteria, were randomly divided into intervention and control groups with 90 and 87 members respectively. The intervention group was offered global health management during pregnancy in accordance with the health management programs by the network hospital; while the control group was offered regular pregnancy care in accordance with the current management style. The intervention was conducted until 42 days after the delivery, and then the two groups were compared in the following aspects:the incidence of anaemia in pregnancy, delivery mode, pregnancy weight gain, birth weight, average length of stay, average hospitalization cost, and the incidence of postpartum depression within 7 days after the delivery and the exclusive breastfeeding rate 42 days afterh the delivery based on the Edinburgh postnatal depression scale. Results:1) The incidence of prenatal anaemia of the intervention group is 24.44%, lower than that of the control group-35.63%. showing statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (P<0.05).2) The cesarean section rate of the intervention group is 53.33%, lower than that of the control group-74.41%, showing statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (P< 0.05).3) The average pregnancy weight gain of the intervention group is 16.15+4.37 (kg), and that of the control group is 16.86±5.39 (kg), showing no statistical significance between the 2 groups (P>0.05).4) The average birth weight of the intervention group is 3, 311±424.18 (g), and that of the control group is 3361.17±699.55 (g); 2 neonates in the intervention group have birth weight less than 2500g and 4 neonates more than 4000g; while in the control group,11 less than 2500g and 12 more than 4000g, showing statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (P<0.05).5) The average length of stay for the intervention group is 7.91±3.53 (days), and the control groups-8.5±3.69 (days), showing no statistical significance (P>0.05).6) The average hospitalization cost of the intervention group is 4890.46±2214.30 (Yuan), and that of the control group is 5559.63±3198.43 (Yuan), showing no statistical significance (P>0.05).7) The average Edinburgh postnatal depression scale score of the intervention group is 6.2±3.71, and the incidence of depression is 18.88%; while those of the control group are respectively 7.30±4.12 and 33.33%, showing statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (P<0.05).8) The exclusive breastfeeding rate 42 days after delivery for the intervention group is 48.88%, and that for the control group is 48.27%, showing no statistical significance (P>0.05). Conclusions:The existing pregnancy healthcare cannot meet the the pregnant women's needs for pregnancy knowledge and healthcare. The pregnant women are the very group in urgent need of health management, and the health management for them should start early before the pregnancy preparation. The health management for the pregnant women by means of network platform has no time and space limitation, and shows good effects on the reduction of caesarean section incidence, incidence of huge infants or low weight infants, and incidence of postpartum depression or pregnancy anemia.
