Association Of Genetic Polymorphism In Brain Natriuretic Peptide With Essential Hypertension In Hunan Han

Objective Essential hypertension(EH) is a mutifactorial disease. The etiology of EH is the result of interactions between a variety of genetic factors and environmental conditions. Investigation for association of genetic factors such as genetic polymorphisms in candidate genes with EH susceptibility will be helpful to understand the molecular mechanism for the disease. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association of brain natriuretic peptide (BNPJ)rs198388 genetic polymorphism with risk of essential hypertension (EH) in Hunan Han nationality in China.Methods A case-control association study was performed in 567 patients with essential hypertension (EH) and 555 normotensive subjects. BNP rs198388 was genotyped by using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-FRLP). Data were analysed with SPSS software to compare the genotypes and allele distributions in EH and the controls, and unconditional logistic regression was performed to evaluate association of genotypes with EH susceptibility after adjustment for risk factor.Results The genotype frequencies for the rs198388 GG, GA and AA were 87.7%,10.9% and 1.4%, respectively, in EH patients, and were 81.6%,17.3% and 1.1%, respectively, in normotensive subjects. Significant differences in both genotypic frequency (P=0.009) and allele frequency (p=0.014) of BNP rs198388 was observed between EH patients and normotensives. Carrying rsl 98388 A allele may be the reason for low risk of hypertension (OR=0.344,95%CI:0.187-0.633,P=0.0006)Conclusions The BNP rs 198388 polymorphism is associated with EH risk in Hunan Han population, carrying rsl 98388 A allele may be the reason for low risk of hypertension.
