[Objective]To understand the epidemiology characteristic of mortality and the burden of diseases caused by respiratory system among residents living in Zhangjiajie, and to analyse the possible causes and risk factors in order to provide valuable scientific proofs for the best health resources assignment and effective preventive methods.[Methods] To collect the data of the dead and the local population by adopting the death cause of survey methodology.Describe and make a comparation among moratlity and the burden of disease with the help of SPSS13.0 and Excel software.[Results]1. The residents'mortality rate of respiratory diseases in Zhangjiajie, Hunan from 2007 to 2009 was 93.17 per 100000,only less than it was in circulatory system. The most two primary respiratory diseases among the dead were chronic bronchitis and pneumonia, flu, with mortality rates of 59.23 per 100000 and 12.43 per 100000, respectively. the male and female crude mortality were 98.87 per 100000,87.08 per 100000,with the age-standardized mortality were 93.01 per 100000 and 64.39 per 100000;the mortality distribution in different age presents in a way which was high at both terminals and low in the middle,as it expresseed as V shape; the highest mortality and the standardized mortality was in Cili County,148.22 per 100000 and 116.90 per 100000 respectively, and the lowest was in Wuliyuan District,23.63 per 100000 and 21.58 per 100000;the death number and mortality rate increased as time goes by.2. PYLL,APYLL,PYLL‰and WPYLL,AWPYLL,WPYLL‰caused by reapiratory diseases during the three years of 2007 to 2009 were higher in men than in women, and the indexes of PYLL‰and WPYLL%‰in men (2.93‰,1.79‰respectively) were higher than that in women(1.94‰,1.16‰respectively) during the period;Cili County scored the highest in PYLL‰and WPYL‰during the period;the indexes mentioned above were in a trend of declining before going up;PYLL‰and WPYLL‰caused by death from Pneumonia and Flu were highest, following by chronic bronchitis.[Conclusions]1. The respiratory diseases are among the most influential diseases which influence the health of Zhangjiajie residences, and the mortality rate among men was higher than it among women, and the distribution of mortality rate in different ages shaped 'V' character, and the young and the old should be taken as the high risk groups;the Cili County had the highest mortality rate;the mortality rate and the number of death growed as time goes by;COPD ranked first among all the other death causes, following by Pneumonia and Flu. 2. In Zhangjiajie City, male suffered more than female. At the county level, Cili County suffered the tougher disease burden than other three counties, and we should pay the greatest attention to Cili County when taking meaures to prevent and treat respiratory diseases. PYLL and WPYLL went down in 2008 but went up again in 2009.Pneumonia and Flu caused the heaviest burden in terms of potential life lost and potential work life lost, following by COPD,...
