CHAPTER1 THE STUDY OF VOXEL-BASED MORPHOMETRY AND RESTING STATE FUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING ON DEPRESSIONObjective:To investigate the differences in Voxel-based morphometry and resting state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of depressive between patients with depression and healthy controls. Methods: Ten medication-naive major depressive patients and twenty healthy control were admitted, assessed by 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD),HAMD sorces were requested≥35 in patients and≤8 in controls. The qualified ones would undergo 3.0-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging ordering to VBM and fMRI.Results: compared to healthy controls, the VBM showed major depressive patients had significantly lower grey matter density in right middle occipital gyri(P<0.001,cluster>100)without increasing grey matter, and significantly lower white matter density in left orbital frontal gyri, right caudate nucleu(sP<0.001, cluster>100)without increasing white matter。The RS-FMRI showed the ALFF of right inferior parietal lobule, left cingulate gyrus, right superior frontal gyri , left middle frontal gyri was significantly increased in major depressive patients(P<0.005);and the ALFF of right and left Posterior lobe of the cerebellum, left orbital frontal gyri, left occipital gyri was significantly decreased in MDD(P<0.005).Conclusions:The Mechanism of MDD may contract to the differences in the limbic system of brian structure and frontal gyri, cerebellum and occipital gyri of brain function. CHAPTER2 THE STUDY OF VOXEL-BASED MORPHOMETRY AND MORPHOLOGY OF RESTING STATE FUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING ON DEPRESSION WITH MODIFIED ELECTROCONVULSIVE THERAPYObjective:To investigate the MDD patients'changes between before and after MECT in Voxel-based morphometry and resting state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, for discussing the mechanism of MECT on treating depression. Methods: The MDD were scanned in the day before MECT and the day after the eighth times of MECT by Voxel-based morphometry and resting state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Results:Corrected by FEW, the VBM showed the MDD after the eighth times of MECT had significantly lower grey matter density in left middle frontal gyri(P<0.05,cluster>50)without increased grey matter, and significantly lower white matter density in left and right superior frontal gyri(P<0.05,cluster>50),increased white matter density in right superior temporal gyri, right insula. The RS-FMRI showed the ALFF of right and left posterior lobe of the cerebellum, anterior lobe of the cerebellum, right thalamus was significantly increased in MDD after the eighth times of MECT(P<0.005), right anterior lobe of the cerebellum, left inferior parietal lobule, right precentral gyrus, right Paracentral lobule was significantly decreased in MDD after the eighth times of MECT(P<0.005). Conclusions:The mechanism of ECT on treating MDD may contracted to the changes of white matter density in right temporal gyri, insula, and brain function in cerebellum.
