Around the world, there are 18 Juglans species, mostly in the north temperate zone. In China, there are 4 species and 1 varuant. Its leaves, flowers, bark, root, wood have been used as traditional herb medicine for treatment of some diseases. In the first part of this thesis, we report the systematic studies on the flowers of Juglans which were collected from Lanzhou City.9 compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of its flowers by means of column chromatography, TLC and recrystalization etc. With the help of MS,'H-NMR and 13C-NMR, their structures were identified as,4,5,8-trihydroxy-a-tetralone 5-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(1), 4,5-dihydroxy-a-tetralone 4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(2),5-hydroxy-4-methoxytetralone(3), 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone(4), rutin(5), vanillin(6), daucosterol(7), P-sitosterol(8), and tetracosanoic acid 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ester(9). In the second part of this thesis, the volatile components from the flowers of Juglans regia was compared with the volatile components from the leaves of Juglans regia. Using steam distillation and GC-MS, we extracted 34 volatile components from the flowers of Juglans regia, and 36 volatile components from the leaves of Juglans regia.
