Abstract/Summary:
BackgroundWith the development of society and changes of lifestyle, Coronary Heart Disease has already became one of the most important cardiovascular diseases. Because of the effectiveness, improvement of the myocardial supply of blood, release of angina, and saving lives; percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which also is minimally invasive surgery, less risky, has been expensive used and developed. Especially in recent decade, the technology and equipment has been further improved, evidence-based medicine has assessed the clinical value of the PCI, which has already been grown well, accompany with higher safety, PCI has been becoming the one of the top three methods that manage the coronary heart disease (CHD) well, such as medication, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), and PCI. However, PCI, as we know, focus on the local lesion rather than entire body condition. Local problem solved by PCI does not stop the process of root (Ben) deficiency and the branch (Biao) sthenia. Professor Deng Tietao, prestigious Chinese physicians, point out that a TCM method called "regulating spleen and protect heart" could help correct the condition of qi-def iciency and phlegm stasis, which are considered as the main TCM mechanism of the development of CHD, thus improve the quality of life, release angina, and decrease the incidence of restenosis, thereby could cover the shortage of PCI. So, it is very worth well to participate into the study of the intervention of TCM method for patients with CHD undergoing PCI.Objectives To observe the effectiveness and safety of TCM method for patients with coronary heart disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.Methods71 consecutive patients with CHD were recruited in accordance with Inclusion and exclusion criteria who were admitted into Guangdong Provincial Hospital Heart Center. According to patients'willing, they are divided into treatment group and control group, the period of observation is 6 months, in which the TCM method has to be carry out as least more than 2 month in treatment group, and the regular treatment the whole period.ResultsTreatment group and control group's Statistics of Classification of CCS, NYHA, symptom of TCM, and Quality of life were significantly improved after treating in a short period of time(within 6 months) (P<0.05), The treatment group decrease incidence rate of angina more obviously than in the control group, there were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). Statistics of SAQ scores and Angina scores in Treatment group were higher than treatment group (P<0.05).ConclusionPCI focuses on the local lesion rather than entire body condition. Local problem solved by PCI does not stop the process of root (Ben) deficiency and the branch (Biao) sthenia. Regulating spleen and Protect heart could help correct the condition of qi-deficiency and phlegm stasis, which could better improve the quality of life, release angina, and decrease the incidence of restenosis, thereby could cover the shortage of PCI.
