Objective Understanding the epidemiological characteristics on patients with HIV infection and AIDS in Yunnan provincial general hospital, against to the population. Providing new scientific evidences for making more perfect systematic consultation, follow-up and therapy strategy, so as to reduce the loss of patients, minimize mortality, and improve the quality of living as well. Methods Choosing the diagnosed patients with HIV infection and AIDS in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from April 2009 to April 2011, and analyzing retrospectively demographics, epidemiology and clinical features of the patients with HIV infection and AIDS.Results From April 2009 to April 2011 of the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, screening 83193 copies of patient's serum clinically, there were 448 cases of the patients whose HIV-1 antibody screening were positive, the rate of early screening positive was 0.5 percent.222 cases of them took the confirmatory test, 213 cases of the 222 cases have been diagnosed as HIV infections or AIDS patients totally, and the rate of confirming positive was 96.0 percents. Among the 213 cases of HIV infections/AIDS patients,154 cases were males, accounted for 72.3 percents (154/213); among the AIDS patients, males accounted for 79.5 percents. The average age was 41.31±13.44 years old, infections among the age of 20 to 50 were 164 cases, accounted for 77.0 percents, peak in 31 to 40 age group. The distribution of occupation showed that there were 64 cases farmers and migrant workers, accounted for 30.0 percents, followed by civil servants 32 cases, accounted for 15.0 percents. Patients who were infected through sexual transmission were 181 cases, accounted for 85.0 percents, and then followed by intravenous drug using, blood and mother to child vertical channel, the percents were 6.6,1.9 and 1.9. There were 195 cases of the infections from our province, accounted for 91.5 percents; the others were mostly from Guizhou and Henan province, accounted for 4.2 percents and 1.4 percent.43 cases of them were ethnic minorities, accounted for 20.2 percents, Yi accounted for 8.0 percents. There were 160 cases of the patients who had married, accounted for 75.1 percents. Viral hepatitis in 30 cases, accounted for 25.6 percents (30/117), of who hepatitis B accounted for 7.7 percents (9/117), hepatitis C accounted for 17.1 percents (20/117), with hepatitis B and C both was 0.9 percent (1/117). Combined tuberculosis or sexually transmitted diseases (STD) were 8 cases and 10 cases; TB screening rate was only 15.5 percents. As fever, diarrhea or thinner for starting symptom there were 69 cases, accounted for 32.4 percents; there were 94 cases of result on CD4+T lymphocyte counts, accounted for 44.1 percents(94/213),203±225/ul on average; 84 cases hospitalized patients were from internal departments, accounted for 39.4 percents; the average days of hospitalization were 10.5±7.5 days. Conclusion The First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, as the largest provincial comprehensive hospital in Yunnan Province, the epidemiological characteristics of HIV infections and AIDS patients compared with Yunnan province's and the Country's conditions are basically the same, most of them are young, male and married people. Sexual transmission has become the primary infection way. Migrant workers and farmers are gradually becoming the main infected group; we should pay more attention to the civil servants and minorities infections. More tend to merge hepatitis C; most of them start with internal system diseases. These have provided theory basis for the follow-up activities and related research.
