Objective:to explore the effects of Wenyang Qiangxin decoction on cardiac structure and function, cytokine and apoptosis of the rabbit model with chronic congestive heart failure.Methods:The 50 rabbits were randomly selected 10 as control group, and the remaining 40 were given adriamycin by intravenous injection to be heart failure model. The 40 rabbits were assigned randomly into four groups by the heart functions which were evaluated by echocardiography after modeling:chronic congestive heart failure (CHF) model group, the captopril group,the low dose Wenyang Qiangxin decoction group and the high dose Wenyang Qiangxin decoction group. Each treatment group were given captopril suspension, low dose Wenyang Qiangxin decoction, high dose Wenyang Qiangxin decoction respectively, normal control group and the CHF model group were given to the same amount of distilled water once a day for 4 weeks. Cardiac structure and function and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-a), interleukin-10 (IL-10), endothelin-1 (ET-1), surface density ratio of positive apoptotic cells were measured and comparatively analyzed at the end of the experiment.Results:(1) After experiment, comparison of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular shortening fraction (LVFS), E peak and A peak ratio (E/A) in each groups,the CHF model group was lowest, compared with other groups, the differences among them were statistically significant(P<0.01).(2) After experiment, comparison of Interventricular septum(IVS) and left ventricular posterior wall (LVPW) in each groups,the CHF model group was thickest, compared with other groups, the differences among them were statistically significant(P<0.01).(3) After experiment, comparison of TNF-a and ET-1 in each groups, the CHF model group was highest, compared with other groups, the differences among them were statistically significant (P<0.01).(4) After experiment, comparison of IL-10 in each groups, the normal control group was lowest, compared with other groups, the differences among them were statistically significant (P<0.01), the captopril group was highest, compared with the high dose Wenyang Qiangxin decoction group, the difference between them was not statistically significant (P> 0.05).(5) After experiment, comparison of the surface density ratio of positive apoptotic cells in each groups, the CHF model group was highest, compared with that of the captopril group and the high dose Wenyang Qiangxin decoction group, the differences among them were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions:Wenyang Qiangxin decoction can improve cardiac function, regulate the cytokine network, inhibit apoptosis and ventricular remodeling, and the high dose group was superior to the low dose.
