Li shizhen, regarded as the D of the holy, was an important figure in Chinese medical history. This thesis attempts to review the process of image-building of Li Shizhen in the context of Social culture evolution.First of all, according to the medical books and local literature, the author outlines the image of Li Shizhen in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In this period, the discussion of Compendium of Materia Medica was mainly in medicine, and Li Shizhen was remembered merely as a famous doctor.Secondly, by reviewing the research status of Li Shizhen in the Republic of China, it reveals the fortune of Li Shizhen and Compendium of Materia Medica in the context of the debate between Chinese and Western Medicine. In fact, Li Shizhen was paid little attention by then. Despite known as a "naturalist" and won a high reputation in West, he was not seen as a scientist yet in China.Thirdly, observing the image-building of Li Shizhen after the founding of the People's Republic of China, we can see that with the the joint effort of the official, the academic circles and the folk, the image of LiShiZhen gradually evolved into the way it looks today.Finally, review the process of image-building of LiShiZhen, and summarize its formative mechanism.
