Objective:To summarize the clinical experience of carcinoma of pancreatic body and tail and then to explore the factors what can influence the outcome of the patients. Methods:By retrospective study 24 patients with effective treatment and following up from January 2000 to December 2010 in China-Japan Union Hospital. The data included alimentary symptoms, sign, assistant examination and treatment.Results:(1) Imaging studies: the positive rates of the Ultrasound and CT are all 100%. (2)Life time: the postoperative life time is 2-16 months. There are two patients whose postoperative life time is 76 months; their pathology is SPTP with low potential malignancy. The other 22 patients'life time is 2-16 months, and their reasons of death are palindromia and metastasis. One year survival rate is 29.17%, two years'is 12.50%, and three years'is 8.33%. (3) Analysis for survival rate: we find that sexuality, year, pancreatitis anamnesis, glycuresis anamnesis, abdominal pain, abdominal distension and some other factors are independence to the survival rate in our analysis (P>0.05, Chart 3-1). 10 patients ware got resection combined with organs, and 4in10 were alive more than one year. Resection combined with organs is independence to the one year survival rate in statistics (P>0.05). The size of tumor is relative to survival rate in statistics (P<0.05, Chart 3-1). Lymphatic metastasis is relative to survival rate in statistics (P<0.05, Chart 3-1). Vascular invasion is relative to survival rate in statistics (P<0.05, Chart 3-1). Invasion to around organs is relative to survival rate in statistics (P<0.05, Chart 3-1).Conclusions:(1) Preoperative evaluation is extremely important. It can direct the doctor to choose the right way of treatment for patients.(2) The size of tumor, lymphatic metastasis, vascular invasion and invasion to around organs are relative to survival rate. (3) The clinical symptoms of patients with carcinoma of pancreatic body and tail is not representative. Prognosis of carcinoma of pancreatic body and tail is not ideal. It is scabrous for clinical doctors to cure the disease. So doctors should pay attention to the diagnose of the carcinoma of pancreatic body and tail.
