| Objective:Based on the anonymous questionnaire of the girl students'age at menarche and the related factors at primary schools and middle schools in Meizhou city, the analysis of the characteristics of menarche age of the girl students in Meizhou city and the related factors are carried out in order to provide scientific basis for puberty health education and supply the foundation to the research for the dynamic changes of girls' menarche age in our city in the future.Methods:200 girls in grade 5 and 6 in three primary schools and 200 girls in grade 1to 3 in three middle schools were selected respectively by using a stratified cluster sampling method at 2009 and asked to fill in the Self-designed Questionnaire on the menarche age and its related factors. The ones who didn't complete the menarche ages well were recorded alone to be the statistics of the rates of menarche age. The menarche ages are based on the accurate ages to be calculated, including the birth years and months and the first menarche, of which 1.2 months were calculated as 0.1 years of age. All the information was put into SPSS 13.0 statistical software to set up a database to calculate girls'menarche ages on average. Quoting single-factor, multi-factors non-conditional Logistic, x2 test, T test and so on to analyze statistically the related factors of the girls' menarche ages.Results:1.The rates of menarche at the ages of 11,12,13,14,15 years were 22.3%,63.2%,91.1%,98.5%,100% respectively. The average age of menarche of the girls in Meizhou city was 12.57 years. The girls aged from 9 to 10,10 to 11,11 to 12,12 to 13,13 to 14,14 to 15 who had menarche made up 4.1%,2.6%,10.5%,45.9%,28.9%,7.9% respectively. The menarche months were among July, August and September, of which July made up 15.1%, August made up 14.0%, September made up 12.2%. April and May were the lowest, of which April made up 3.3% and May made up 5.6%. 2. The average weight of the menstruation menarche girls aged from 11 to 12 year was 44.86kg, which was higher than that of the non-menstruation menarche one which was 35.79 kg. The difference was obvious (p=0.000). The average height of the menstruation menarche girls aged from 11 to 12 was 154.49cm while the one of the non-menstruation menarche girls was 145.21 cm. The difference was obvious (p=0.000).The average age of menarche of the girls in Meizhou city was 12.57, and MMA of their mothers was 14.36. MMA of daughters was ahead of their mothers with 1.79 years. The difference was obvious (P=0.000).The rate of obesity aged from 11 to 12 in primary schools was 5.3%. The rate of menarche aged 11 was 70%, the normal group was 19.5%. There was statistically significance of difference (P< 0.05).The one aged 12 was 100%, the normal group was 61.1%. There was statistically significance of difference (P<0.05). The MMA of obesity aged from 12 was 11.49, which was 1.08 year earlier than that of the girls in Meizhou city, which was 12.57. There was obvious significance of difference (P <0.05)3. The mothers'MMA was 13.57 years old, whose daughters were early menarche. While the mothers'MMA was 14.87 years old, whose daughters were later menarche. The mothers'average age of early menarche was 1.30 year earlier than that of late menarche. The difference was obvious (p=0.000).The MMA of the girls whose parents had good feelings was 12.6. The MMA of the girls whose parents had general feelings was 12.34. The MMA of the girls whose parents had bad feelings was 11.59. There was no difference of the MMA between the girls whose parents had good feelings and the ones whose parents had general feelings. But the MMA of the girls whose parents had bad feelings was earlier than that of the girls whose parents had good feelings and general feelings. There was a significant statistical difference (P< 0.05).There was no obvious difference of the average MMA of the girls whose parents had different educational background (P) 0.05)4. The MMA of girls who did not do some exercises was 11.62. The MMA of girls who did occasionally exercises was 12.42 and that of the ones who did a lot of exercises was 13.23. There was a significant statistical difference (P< 0.05).The MMA of the girls with introvert character was 11.83. The MMA of the girls with outgoing character was 12.45. There was a significant statistical difference (P=0.001)Conclusion:1. The mean menarche age(MMA) of the girls in Meizhou city was 12.57. The menarche showed that seasonal peak was in summer, April and May was the lowest.2. The occurrence of menarche was based on the individual growth, especially the weight. The developed economy and the improved nutrition would promote individual growth and result in the earlier menarche. Obesity could also lead to the earlier menarche.3. The mothers'menarche age was the related factor of the daughters'one. There was no obvious difference between the level of mothers'educational background and the daughters'menarche age. The bad feelings of the parents and the bad harmonious family atmosphere would lead to the earlier menarche of daughters.4. The menarche of the girls who seldom did exercises and had introvert character would be ahead of advance while the menarche of the girls who often did exercises and had outgoing character would be late.
