Periodontal disease is the one of the most popular oral diseases,is harmful of oral health. It is one of the main result in tooth loss.It is well known that oral micro-organisms is the initial factor for periodontal disease. However, only the presence of periodontal microorganisms does not necessarily lead to the occurrence of periodontal disease, but also with the body's defense mechanism and the body of the local and systemic factors.Stress is a risk factor for periodontal disease. The role of the stress in periodontal disease occurrence and development has been valued by people.Stress could affect the immune system to reduce the body's resistance and thus susceptible to disease.Chronic stress could cause long-term emotional state of mind, these fluctuations of emotions could cause some harmful oral habits such as smoking, bruxism and would damage the periodontal tissues,is a contributing factor to periodontal disease.Cell adhesion molecule (CAM) is synthesized by the cells,is an important material of adhesion between cells and cells, cells and matrix.Cell adhesion molecules could promote the aggregation of leukocytes to sites of inflammation, and affect the T cell and B cell activation and the effect. In the process of periodontal inflammation, cell adhesion molecule plays a very important role in the directional movement of immune cells.Cell adhesion molecule plays a crucial role in periodontal disease occurrence and development.Intercellular adhesion molecule -1 (ICAM-1) is one of the immunoglobulin superfamily in cell adhesion molecules,is expressed in blood vessels in the periodontal and gingival epithelium. With the increasing degree of inflammation, the amount of ICAM-1 expression in periodontal cells also increased.ICAM-1 is an objective index.By measuring the periodontal tissue of the amount of ICAM-1 expression,we could determine the degree of periodontal inflammation.ObjectiveDiscussing the relationship between periodontal disease and periodontal disease and the role of the chronic stress in periodontal disease occurrence and development.Methods1.20 male wistar rats were provided by the Shanxi Medical University,6 weeks, randomly divided into four groups, stress group(A),ligation+stress group(B),ligation group(C),the control group(D),each group of five. The dental cervix of left mandibular incisor of group B and C were ligated with 0000 nylon thread, with 1% sugar water and rats feed sugar water soaked fed.Group A and B swam at room temperature, and group A were fed water and standard rats feed.Group D as the control group, did not do swim and silk ligation, were fed water and standard feed.2.After eight weeks, every rat's weight was measured, and then animals were killed, the mandible were intercepted, including the interception of experimental teeth and mandibular periodontal tissues, then hematoxylin esin(HE) and ICAM-1 immunohistochemistry(IHC) staining were produced.Experimental data obtained by spss17.0 software for processing, with the mean±standard deviation ( x_±s) said.Using t test to compare each of the two groups.ResultObserved by the naked eye, left mandibular of group A incisor gingival were color pink, not swollen gums, normal.Group B were the color dark red gum,gum swelling, rounded edges, soft texture.Group C were similar to the group B.Group D were similar to the group A.Observed in HE staining under the microscope, groupB and C were spikes epithelial hyperplasia, fibrous connective tissue edema, neutrophil and inflammatory cell infiltration, groupA and D were arranged in the same periodontal ligament, not epithelial spikes, not neutrophils and inflammatory cell infiltration.IHC showed that, group B and C in rat periodontal tissue ICAM-1 expression was significantly higher than the group A and D(p<0.05),group B and C were no statistical difference, the same as the group A and D.The end,the average weight of group A and B were significantly lower than the group C and D(p<0.05),the average weight of group A and B showed no statistically significant difference, group C and D were too.ConclusionOrganism is the initiating factor of periodontal disease. However, the just presence of microorganisms does not cause periodontal disease,it does not explain the complexity of periodontal disease. In this experiment, chronic stress alone did not cause inflammation in the periodontal tissue in rats, did not increase inflammation in periodontal tissue in rats.Chronic stress may be a disruptive factor of balance of periodontal ecosystem. At the molecular level the mechanism of periodontal disease and chronic stress is to be studied further.
