Study On The Hospitalized Expenditure Among Patients With Schizophrenia And Its Influencing Factors

ObjectiveStudy the composition of hospitalization expenses of schizophrenia and its influencing factors by completely analyzing the hospital expendses of schizophrenia in a Psychiatric hospital from the year 2006 to 2010, providing reference for hospatal manager to use henlth resources more effcctively for maximum health and social benefits and to control the excessive growth of medical expenses.MethodsCollected relevant data about 12232 cases and their hospitalized delivery expenses in a Psychiatric hospital from the year 2006 to 2010, the basic information(age,sex, marital status and so on) and the composition of the expense were statistically described;Nonparametric Test and Multivariate Regression Analisis method were applied to analyze the factors that influenced the expenses in hospital. The studied variables included: the hospital days,the vesting conditions , the years live in hospital,the sex,the burden form,the marital status and the age . The data was analyzed by SPSS13.0 and the test criteria was P<0.05.Results1.Totally 12232 patients were collected, the female inpatients were more than male inpatients, and the proportion of 20~39 years old group was 65.8%.2.From the year 2006 to 2010, the hospitalized expenditure among the patients of schizophrenia growed with time.3.The charges for diagnosing and treating expenditure account for the biggest proportion in the hospitalized expenditure among the patients of schizophrenia,about 28.0%~33.1%, followed by medical fee and laboratory fee, about 14.4%~20.4% and 9.2%~11.1%.4.Consider the burden form, the proportion of the self-surpporting patients was 92.7%,while patients supported by new rural cooperative medical service only 0.1%.Compared the burden form, the medical insurance supporting patients cost the higest hospialized expenditure, then was the self-surpporting patients.5.The Multivariate Regression Analisis of influencing factors showed that the most important factor was hospital days,followed by vesting conditions ,years live in hospital,sexuality , marital status, and burden form.ConclusionThe hospitalization expenses in schizophrenic inpatients were influenced with various influencing factors, including controlable and non-controlable factors. In order to decrease patient's hospitalization expenses and lighten patient's economy burden,enhancing hospital management and raising medical technology level must be done to control the expenses from the eontrolable factors,such as shorten hospitalization time.This could raise not only social benefit but also hospital's economy benefit.
