Objective1. To study on status of TB prevalence and change trends in Hefei.2. To analysis on epidemiological characteristics of TB patients in Hefei and try to clearly indicate important population and districts for control.3. To know registration status of TB patients in Hefei, and to clarify the difference and relations between incidence and registered rate of TB.4. To provide evidence for making decisions of next ten-year plan in Hefei by combining study results and TB control status.MethodTB patient information whose registered or reported current address were four districts in Hefei were exported from'Disease Supervision Information Management System (DSIMS)'and'TB Information Management System (TBIMS)'during 2004 and 2009 to EXCEL for combination and clean. SPSS 13.0 was used to analyze data and merge annual population data in Hefei. EXCEL was used to calculate incidence and registered rate, then prepare related statistical tables and graph. All data in this study were from four districts: Yaohai district, Luyang district, Shushan district and Baohe district, excluded three counties, other provinces or cities.ResultThe reported TB incidence from 2004 to 2009 was 100.06/100,000, 100.79/100,000, 94.63/100,000, 96.52/100,000, 76.92/100,000 and 58.13/100,000, average rate was 86.56/100,000. Reported incidence of smear-positive TB patient was 29.55/100,000, 34.39/100,000, 27.20/100,000, 27.17/100,000, 28.03/100,000 and 21.48/100,000, average rate was 27.70/100,000. Reported TB death rate was 0, 0.61/100,000, 0.34/100,000, 0.22/100,000, 0.05/100,000, 0.39/100,000, average rate was 0.27/100,000. Reported incidence was highest in Yaohai district which was 104.24/100,000. Reported incidence was lowest in Luyang district which was 68.36/100,000. The first peak occurred in March and April, the second peak was September. The ratio of male and female was 2.4 in reported TB patients. About 46.65% of reported TB patients was peasant workers, 14.84% was retired people, 11.15% was students. 50% was young adults aged 15-44 years old. There were 7003 TB patients registered in TB control organization in Hefei during 2004 and 2009. A total of 6315 patients were cured after treatment. The number of avoiding infectious patients was 23960, the number of avoiding new active TB patients was 19168. This help to reduce medical expenditure about 22500,000 Yuan, save social total value up to 1.1 billion Yuan.New TB patients registered rate was 31.22/100,000, 57.26/100,000, 77.20/100,000, 89.02/100,000, 74.70/100,000 and 54.63/100,000, average rate was 64.84/100,000. Registered rate of smear-positive TB patient was 23.14/100,000, 27.38/100,000, 25.20/100,000, 29.57/100,000, 28.59/100,000 and 20.89/100,000, average rate was 25.79/100,000.ConclusionThe prevalence of TB decreased 20% annually in Hefei since 2007. This decreasing was faster in Yaohai district and Luyang district, but not in Shushan district and Baohe district. DOTS strategy obtained significant hygiene and social economic benefits. However, there were some questions during carrying out DOTS strategy. It's necessary to increase implement quality of DOTS strategy by integrating actual status of Hefei and improving DOTS strategy. When making next ten-year plan, it's important to control TB patients in Shushan district and Baohe district, especially young adults. At the same time, we should keep on practicing and extending DOTS strategy with emphasis to strength construction of human resources in TB control organizations of all levels, to establish supervision and assessment system for county and community, to let the aim of TB thousand-year development made by United Nations come true earlier.
