This article deals with the study of Stemona tuberosa Lour., concluding the chemical constituents research, quality standard, and HPLC fingerprint based on literature review. The aim is to establish the quality standard, control the quality of this medical materials effectively. Literature reviewAll recent relevant literature concerning the herb Radix Stemona modern medicine research progression, the property collected, medicine elaboration and utilization, and historical evolution of concocts are documented. We also made a review concerning medical source, habitat, chemical composition, deter-mination method, pharmacological action and clinical research progression. The chemical research of Stemona tuberosa Lour.The chemical constituents of Stemona tuberosa Lour. was studied by some isolutional technologies such as silica gel and so on. The method was estab-lished to indentify Stemona alkaloids fast by HPLC/ESI-MS, and nine alkaloids were indentified qualitatively. The four alkaloids isolated were subjected to on-line HPLC/ESI-MS, and their fragmentation pathways were found to be similar,which can offer the foundation to the structure analyses of new compounds and intermediate metabolism research of new drug.Four alkaloids were isolated from Stemona tuberosa Lour. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses, including MS and NMR experiments. They are tuberostemoninol A, Tuberostemoninol B, tuberostemoninol and bisdehydroneutuberostemonine. Tuberostemoninol A and tuberostemoninol B are new compounds, and the 1H和13CNMR data were assigned for the first time. The studies on quality control of Stemona tuberosa Lour.The quality control research of Stemona tuberosa Lour. was improved. The TLC indentification, the assay of total alkaloids were added on the basis of CP 2005 edtion. And the HPLC method was used to determine the assay of bisde- hydroneotuberostemonine in Stemona tuberosa Lour.. Bisdehydroneotuberostemo-nine was only detected in Stemona tuberosa Lour., the HPLC method can thus be used to differentiate Stemona tuberosa Lour. from other two sources of the herb Radix Stemona.HPLC fingerprint of ten origin's Stemona tuberosa Lour. was studied. The fingerprint and detect method were built up by optimizing chromatogram con-dition.14 common peaks were demarcated, so as to control the quality of med-icinal materials. Referred to "Technical Specifications of Fingerprint Study of Chinese Traditional Medicine Injection (Interim Regulation)" decreed by SFDA and similarity evaluation system for chromatographic fingerprint of TCM(2004 A) set by China pharmacopoeia committee. The results showed the simi-larity of Stemona tuberosa Lour. were both from 0.9 to 1.0. Compared the HPLC chromatogram of three sources of the herb Radix Stemona, it was concluded that they were quite different in chemical constituents. The general study of quality control needs go further.
