ObjectivesThis research is to observe the clinical effect of the method of regulating liver-qi& metality therapy by acupuncture and moxibustion on treating Depression accompanied by Neck Pain. It is to search for the relationship between depression and neck pain on the view of treating methods and clinical therapeutic effect.MethodsSeventy patients suffered from depression accompanied by neck pain were recruited from out-patient and wards of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of TCM. Patients were com pletely randomly distributed into regulating liver-qi & metality group (group 1) and ordinary anelgesia group (group 2), with 35 cases in each group. Priscription for group 1:Puncture Baihui(DU20), Yintang (EX-HN3), Hegu(LI4, bilateral), Taichong(LR3, bilateral), Shenmen(HT7, left/ right), Wangu(SI4, right/left), Geshu(BL17, bilateral), Danshu(BL19, bilateral) were used in direct moxibustion, Xinshu(BL15, bilateral), Ganshu(BL18, bilateral) were used in the needle-embedding therapy. Priscription for group 2:Puncture Tianzhu (BL10, bilateral), Fengchi (GB20, bilateral), Waiguan (SJ5, bilateral), Bailao(EX-HN15, bilateral), Bailao(EX-HN15, bilateral), Jianzhongshu (SI15, bilateral) were used in direct moxibustion, Xinshe (EX-HN24, bilateral), Dazhu (BL11, bilateral) were used in the needle-embedding therapy. Using the Hamilton Depression Scale, Northwick Park Neck Pain Scale, Self-rating Depression Scale to evaluate the therapeutic effect of the two groups before and after the treatment, and also follow-up for 3 monthes after treatment. All data was processed and analysed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, windows version 15). For the result, the HAMD reduction rate, the HAMD point, the SDS point, and the NPQ point were used to evaluate the efficacy.Result1. By comparing the material before treatment, there was no significant difference between two groups by gender, age, course of disease and syndrome type of TCM (P>0.05).2. By comparing the HAMD point, the SDS point, the NPQ point before and after treatment, all figures in two groups changed markedly after treatment. There was markedly significant difference in group 1 (P<0.01) and also markedly significant difference in group2 (P<0.01).3. There was no significant difference between two groups by comparing the HAMD point, the SDS point, and the NPQ point before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, there was markedly significant difference between two groups by comparing the HAMD point(P<0.01), and significant difference between two groups by comparing the NPQ point (P<0.05). Group 1 had better clinical effect than group 2. In the 3 monthes follow-up period after treatment, the points of HAMD,SDS and NPQ of two groups showed a recovery trend compared with the end of treatment, but by observing intra-group comparison, the recovery rate of group 1 was less than that of group 2(P<0.05).ConclusionBoth regulating liver-qi& metality therapy and ordinary anelgesia therapy by acupuncture and moxibustion have certain clinical effect for symptoms of depression and neck pain. For patients with Depression accompanied by Neck Pain, regulating liver-qi and metality therapy has better therapeutic effect on depression and neck pain symptoms than ordinary anelgesia therapy. In the 3 monthes of follow-up after treatment, by comparing all figures between two groups, regulating liver-qi and metality therapy is better than ordinary anelgesia therapy in maintaining the effect for Depression accompanied by Nect Pain. There is certain relationship between depression and pain on the view of treating methods and clinical therapeutic effect. Treating one of the conditions will relieve the other condition.By comparing all figure between two groups, regulating liver-qi and metality therapy has better clinical therapeutic effect than ordinary anelgesia therapy for Depression accompanied by Nect Pain. It's worthly of the clincal promotion and application.
