Cervical spondylosis is a disorder that results from chronic degeneration of the cervical spine including the cervical disks and joints between the bones of the cervical spine. The neck pain was one of the most common clinical symptoms of cervical disc disease. The pain might spread to the base of the skull and shoulders.Movement of the neck might make the pain worse. It was also usual with a symptom of headache. The pain tended to wax and wane with flare-ups from time to time.In recent years, the incidence of cervical spondylosis had gradually increased and the age had gotten younger. This disease had brought patients' great discomfort, reduced patients' quality of life and had great effect on patients' ability to work, which also caused the high economic costs to the society. Acupuncture treatment for the neck pain of cervical spondylosis has characteristics of better efficacy, less side effects and quickness. The study was based on Professor Fu Wenbin's achievements by using the theory of traditional medicine and years of his own clinical experience. In order to find the best clinical programmes of acupuncture treatment for the neck pain of cervical spondylosis, the study evaluated the validity and compared the efficacy of acupuncture treatment with moxibustion treatment. Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture and Moxibustion on the neck pain of cervical spondylosis, and to compare the efficacy of acupuncture treatment with moxibustion treatment.Methods:60 acute cervical spondylosis subjects which were into line with standards and exclusion criteria were from acupuncture clinics of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The subjects were randomly divided into acupuncture group(n=28)and moxibustion group(n=32).The subjects received acupuncture treatment in the acupuncture group and moxibustion treatment in the Moxibustion Group. The acupuncture prescription of the two group was the same that contained the acupoints of EX-B2(Festival of the disease),GB20,GB21,SJ5.The subjects were treated three times a week, every two days for a week. The study considered three times as a course of treatment, totally 3 courses. The treatment effect was evaluated by the Northwick Park (NPQ)scale and McGill scale in four periods:pre-treatment,the first course, the second course and the third course. Finally, the study made statistical analysis and compared with scores between two groups on scales in four periods. Results:By comparing the general material before treatment, there was no statistical discrepancy between the two group in age, height, weight, course of disease, gender, education level, and time of using computer and so on.The score of Northwick Park(NPQ)scale and the one of McGill scale in both group was lower than that those before treatment. There was statistical discrepancy in the score of Northwick Park(NPQ)scale and the one of McGill scale of the two group before and after the treatment (P<0.01).There was no statistical discrepancy in the score of Northwick Park(NPQ)scale and McGill scale between the two group before and after the treatment. Conclusion:Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment had good clinical efficacy for the neck pain of cervical spondylosis. There was almost the same effect on Acupuncture treatment and moxibustion treatment.
