The Clinical Observation On Acupoints Heat-sensitive Moxibusion In Treating The Bronchial Asthma

This article gave a overview of asthma, which introduced the appearance, progress and treatment of asthma in traditional Chinese medicine. Besides, Pathogenesis of asthma and way of curing asthma in western medicine were also displayed. Then it told both of the advantages and disadvantages of the treatments of Chinese way and that of the Western way. It also present the evolvement and clinical application of acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy.ObjectiveThe study is under the support of subject, acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion treatment of asthma (persistent) from the National Science and Technology Support Programme. By observing the improvement of pulmonary function test(FEV1 and PEF) and symptoms of asthma patients who are treated by the acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy and Seretide (50μg/ 250μg), we could evaluate the clinical effect of acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy in curing the asthma (persistent).MethodsThe study is national multi-center randomized controlled clinical trial at the same period.24 patients were randomly divided into two groups by multi-center,12 case in acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy group (treatment group)and 12 in Seretide group (control group). Treatment group is treated by acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy for 3 months,30 to 90 minutes once, until the heat-sensitive acupoints lose their specialty and turn into common acupoints. At the first month, start treatment continuely for once a day for 8 days at the very beginning, and then 12 times treatment at the left 22 days, make sure there are 15 times treatment each month during the later 2 month (Treatment is no more than once a day). Control group is treated by Seretide 50μg/250μg (salmeterol xinafoate50μg/fluticasone propionate250μg), which is produced by Glaxosmithkline Corporation, one Inhalationa once, twice a day. Observe period lasts for 3 months。Before treatment and after 3 months'treatment, every patient should check the pulmonary function. During the period of the research, the score of symptoms after treated for half a month, for 1 month, for 2 months and for 3 months should be taken down for comparison. Observed indicators to evaluate the curative effect are PEF (peak expiratory force) and FEV1 (expiratory volume in first second) in the pulmonary function tests, scores of symptom and effective rate.ResultsBefore treatment the general condition (gender, age, cause of disease), symptoms score and lung function (FEV1 and PEF), the difference was not statistically significant, therefore groups were comparable. Treatment results are broken down as follows:1. In the acupoint heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy group, the difference between score after 3 months'treatment and score before the treatment is statistically significant (P<0.01).2. In the acupoint heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy group, the difference between FEV1 pre-and FEV1 post-treatment is not statistically significant (P>0.05), so is to the PEF.3. After 3 months of treatment, the difference between FEV1 of treatment group and that of the control group is not statistically significant (P> 0.05). 4. The difference between both groups is not statistically significant (P> 0.05).ConclusionThe acupoint heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy can remarkably improve the asthma patients symptoms, compared with the Seretide group, the difference is not statistically significant. However, there is a trend that the ratio of the partial control in acupoints heat-sensitive moxibusion group is higher than that of Seretide group.The acupoint heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy on pulmonary function indicators (PEF, FEV1) in patients with asthma is not significantly improvement, compared with Seretide, the difference is not statistically significant. The treat group's efficiency is the same as control group. AS the study is one part of acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion treatment of asthma (persistent) from the National Science and Technology Support Programme, the current sample and statistical result is not sufficient to evaluate the curative effect of acupoints heat-sensitive moxibustion therapy on asthma (persistent). Systematic and objective evaluation will be waiting until all the Statistics from every research center are gathered.
