| ObjectiveTo explore the etiology and clinical features of inpatient characteristic of ophthalmoplegia.MethodsTo analyze the treatment of inpatients characteristic of ophthalmoplegia in our hosipital and to generalize the treatment of 40 such patients with definite causes.ResultsThese 40 patients have been definitely diagnosed. Causes are mainly diabetes and myasthenia gravis(8 cases in each),and also cerebrovascular disorder(7 cases), Toloso-Hunt syndrome(5 cases), Fisher syndrome and brain stem encephalitis(4 cases), aneurysm(3 cases), multiple sclerosis(2 cases), tumor(1 case), purulent meningitis(l case) and orbital apex syndrome(1 case). The clinical features of patients with diabetes are old age, abnormal glucose tolerance, bad control of blood glucose, oculomotor nerve involved mainly, abducent nerves involved secondarily and no abnormalties in pupils. MG patients with ophthalmoplegia are mainly ocular MG. In all 40 cases, oculomotor nerve is mainly involved and abducent nerve involved secondarily. ConclusionDespite the complexity of causes for ophthalmoplegia, we should carefully analyze the clinical features of these patients. We should first make a diagnosis that it's internal ophthalmoplegia,or external ophthalmoplegia or both. Then we can conclude whether it's myopathic or neurogenic, and select relative examinations, like L P,MRI and CTA. Finally, we can get to a definite cause and an effective therapy. |
