Objective:To study the methods, routes and values of the exposure of recurrent laryngeal nerve in thyroid surgery, and improve the quality and security of thyroid operation. Methods:The data of 123 patients accepting thyroid surgery were analyzed retrospectively. According to the summary of exposure methods of recurrent laryngeal nerve in the first and the second operation, we evaluated the injury of recurrent laryngeal nerve, and provided secure and reliable methods for avoiding the injury of recurrent laryngeal nerve in thyroid operation.Results:123 cases of thyroid surgery patients included the first operation 99 cases and reoperation 24 cases. We dissected 157 recurrent laryngeal nerves intra-operatively, among which included 40 left nerves,49 right nerves, and 68 bilateral nerves. The result indicated that recurrent laryngeal nerve of all included patients wasn't damaged during or after thyroid surgery. Conclusion:Exposing recurrent laryngeal nerve can prevent recurrent laryngeal nerve injury in thyroid operation, especially in a second operation. We concluded that exposing recurrent laryngeal nerve can be used as a routine method in thyroid surgery.
