Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways associated with non-specific bronchial hyperreactivity. With the worldwide increase in the prevalence of asthma, many patients with asthma will require some type of surgical procedure during which their asthma management should be optimized. Preoperative assessment of asthma should include a specialized history and physical as well as pulmonary function testing.Anaesthetic management in asthmatic patients has been focused on avoiding bronchoconstriction and inducing bronchodilation. With the new defination of asthma concept in mind, and knowing that asthma is a common disorder with increasing prevalence rates and severity worldwide, a rational choice of anaesthetic agents and procedures is mandatory. In this Revies,we attempted to outline available data and the criteria for the anaesthetic management in asthmatic patients, such as:the definatione of asthma, preoperative valuation, choice of anesthetic techcique, and treatment of intraoperative bronchospasm.
