Objective: To investigate the expressions and clinical significance of metastasis associated gene 1 and KISS-1 gene in gastric cancer. Methods: We collected 82 cases of gastric cancer tissues from oral and maxillofacial surgery department of First Afficiated Hospital of Anhui Medical University and 20 cases of gastric macosa tissues away from stomach ulcer or gastroduodenal ulcer which underwent surgical resection. Each tissue we got five section. Immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the MTA1 and KISS-1 protein among 20 normal gastric macosa and 82 gastric cancer samples.Results:(1) The signals of all tissue section were in focus. (2)The positive rates of MTA1and KISS-1 protein were respectively 5.00%and 90.00% among 20 normal gastric macosa and 52.44%and 40.24% in 82 gastric cancer samples. Most positive staining for MTA1 was seen in the nucleus of the cancer cells, a few was in the cytoplasm and positive staining for KISS-1 was seen in the cytoplasm of the cancer cells . (3) The over expressions of MTAl were significantly related with the invasion depth, differentiation, clinical stage, distant metastasis and lymph node metastasis(p<0.05); and there were no significantly related with the sex, the size of tumorand and the age(p>0.05). The low expressions of KISS-1 were significantly related with the invasion depth, clinical stage, distant metastasis and lymph node metastasis(p<0.05), and there were no significantly related with the age, the sex, differentiation and the size of tumorand (p>0.05). In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between MTA1 and KISS-1 in human gastric cancer(p<0.05).Conclusion:(1) Most positive staining for MTA1 was seen in the nucleus of the cancer cells, a few was in the cytoplasm and positive staining for KISS-1 was seen in the cytoplasm of the cancer cells. (2) The over expressions of MTA1 and low expressions of KISS-1 were significantly related with infiltration and metastasis of the human gastric cancer. MTA1 and KISS-1 may be useful markers for evaluation of tumor malignancy, judgment of recurrence, metastasis and prognosis in patients with gastric cancer, and may hope to be new targets of gene therapy of gastric cancer.
