Objective To investigate the application of the high-frequency ultrasound in the axial pattern skin flap's preoperative design, and to understand the distribution of vessel in the axial pattern flaps. Methods The color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) of the high-resolution of BaiSheng DU8 and GE Vivid 7 was used in the design of 15 cases to be transferred or transplanted flap, preoperative, with the color Doppler energy (CDE),the pulsed Doppler (PW) technology, and the probe frequency is 5MHz and 10MHz. Then we scan these head artery and their branches, and record the flap axis artery origin, the number of branches, blood vessel diameter, lumen smoothness, thrombosis etc, then we make surface orientation, in contrast with the surgery. Results For the 15 axial pattern skin flaps in the donor sites,15 branches of arteries in the depth,47 branches of the artery were found. The diameters of branches of arteries were at 0.2mm-2.0mm, lumen is smooth and thrombus is not been checked. Surgery in line verified the rate of ultrasounded localization of vascular was 100%, no abnormal blood vessels and the non-existent phenomenon. All flaps survived. Conclusion High-frequency ultrasound can make accurate and reliable evaluation for the blood supply of axial pattern skin flap, provide a guarantee for clinical preoperative flap design and cut successfully in operation, and improved the survival rate of skin flap after operation.
