| Objective:Apply high-frequency ultrasound to measure the thickness of the facial skin at different locations in young adults(20-40 years old),explore the trend of facial skin thickness changes, and provide accurate data for facial related plastic surgery.Methods:32 measurement locations were designed based on the areas of interest in facial plastic surgery.Using a 23 MHz high-frequency transducer with a slice width of12.8mm,30 healthy Han Chinese adults were scanned at the 32 locations on their left faces. Each location was divided into three equal parts, and the skin thickness(epidermis+dermis)of the midpoint of each part was measured, resulting in a total of2880 measurements. For the three skin thickness measurements that were close and had no statistical difference in the same location, they were classified as the "consistent zone," and the average thickness was calculated. For the three measurements that had significant differences in the same location, they were classified as the "difference zone," and the average value of the three measurements was listed. Results : Under 23 MHz high frequency ultrasound, the epidermis showed linear hyperechoic and the dermis showed zonal moderate echogenicity.Of the 32 facial measurement locations(including the inner, middle, and outer parts of the forehead, the inner and outer parts of the eyebrow, the root of the nose, the upper and lower parts of the temple, the upper, middle, and lower parts of the inner cheek, the upper, middle, and lower parts of the outer cheek, the upper parts of the nasolabial fold, the marionette lines, the middle and outer parts of the jaw,and the anterior edge of the masseter muscle),19 locations were classified as the "consistent zone," while 13 locations with greater skin thickness variation were classified as the "difference zone"(including the upper and lower parts of the nasal dorsum, the nasal tip,the nasolabial groove, the upper and lower parts of the upper eyelid, the upper and lower parts of the lower eyelid, the nasojugal groove, the lacrimal groove, the eyelid-cheek groove, the philtrum, and the chin). The thickest part of the facial skin was at the lower edge of the nasal tip(2.244±0.341)mm,while the thinnest part was at the lower edge of the upper eyelid(0.238±0.043)mm.The skin thickness of the forehead gradually decreased from the inner to outer regions. The skin of the inner cheek was thicker than that of other cheek regions. The average facial skin thickness of males(1.120±0.162)mm was greater than that of females(0.952±0.080)mm(P < 0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in skin thickness among different body mass index(BMI)ranges or age groups(P>0.05).A visual graph of facial skin thickness was created.Conclusion:23MHz high-frequency ultrasound can clearly display the epidermis and dermis of facial skin, accurately measuring the skin thickness of different parts of the face; The skin thickness of different parts has certain rules, which can be divided into "consistent zone" and "difference zone";Provide reference for relevant plastic and aesthetic treatments. |
