Objective:To investigate whether the short-term and long-term curative effect on treating superior cervical vertigo with Long cenghua bone-setting manipulation combined with acupotomy is better than that with Long cenghua bone-setting manipulation alone, and whether the combination of Long cenghua bone-setting manipulation and acupotomy can reduce the recurrence rate of cervical vertigo effectively and enhance cervical spine's stability in order to find the best treatment in clinic. Methods:In this study, a total of 94 patients of cervical vertigo in hospital from the Physiotherapy Department, the Neurology Department and the inpatient department for the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department of General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command of PLA from June 2008 to Oct 2009 were randomly divided into treatment group and control group in the ratio of 1 to 1.â‘ Comparision the clinical manifestations of the treatment group with that of the control group before and after treatment, at 3 months following-up and 6 months following-up after termination of the therapy was executed. Referred to the Standard of Diagnosis& Treatment by the National Chinese Medicine Administrative Bureau and the Quantization of the Varying Degrees of Clinical Symptoms such as cervical vertigo, tinnitus, pain on neck, nausea and blurred vision according to their respective scoring classified as 0 point,1 point,2 points and 3 points.â‘¡Methods of CDFI were performed to analyze the differences between the two groups before and after treatment by measuring and comparing the values of peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), pulsatility index (PI) and resistance index (RI) in vertebral arteries.â‘¢Comparison the total curative effect of the treatment group with that of the control group was carried out. The standard of therapeutic effect referred to the stanard of clinical curative effect, the Criterion of Traditional Chniese Medicine Diagnosis and Therapy by the National Chinese Medicine Administrative Bureau. T test or Chi-square test was used for all the values and the therapeutic effect in the statistical analysis, a value less than 0.05 was considered as significance. Results:â‘ As for the treatment group,37 cases were cured,7 cases were significantly effective,2 cases were improved, and 1 case was inactive. The total effective rate was 97.9%. As for the control group, 24 cases were cured,13 cases were significantly effective,8 cases were improved, and 2 cases was inactive. The total effective rate was 95.7%. The differences between the treatment group and the control group had statistical significance.â‘¡There were no significant statistical differences in vertebral artery indices including RI, PSV, EDV and PI between the two groups prior to treatment (P>0.05), that meant comparable. After treatment, all the above-mentioned vertebral artery indices were measured respectively again. There were signifiant differences between the both groups by statistical disposal (P<0.05).â‘¢Scoring of symptoms was given to the both groups before and after treatment. Before treatment, the differences on symptoms score between the two groups were statistically insignificant (P>0.05), that meant comparable. After treatment, there were remarkable statistical differences on symptoms score between the two groups (P<0.05), and the result showed that the curative effect of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group. At 3 months following-up after termination of the therapy, there were no significant differences on symptoms score between two groups by statistical disposal (P>0.05), but at 6 months following-up after termination of the therapy, the differences on symptoms score between two groups by statistical disposal were found remarkable (P<0.05).Conclusion:The combination of Long cenghua bone-setting manipulation and acupotomy can significantly increase the clinical curation effect on treating cervical vertigo, improve the blood rheology of vertebral artery, reduce the long-term recurrence rate, and enhance cervical spine's stability. It is worthy of being widely popularized in clinical application.
