PurposeThe thesis concentrates on the acupuncture and tuina type of ancient literature included in "Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and also deals with the prescription about treating diabetes mellitus. It analyzes the ancient uses of the clinical therapeutic acupoints in treating diabetes mellitus for that can guide modern clinical treatment. Therefore, it makes acupuncture and moxibution play a better curaive effect role in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.MethodsSearch 50 parts of the acupuncture and tuina type of ancient literature included in "Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine, " search and input the prescription and the database in Microsoft Excel. Sort out the therapeutic prescription regulation of acupoints of acupuncture and moxibution about diabetes mellitus in the ancient books.Result1. "Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine" collects fifty ancient books of the acupuncture and tuina. Among them, there are 41 ancient books about the general survey,7 ancient books about the law of acupuncture and moxibution and 2 ancient books of collection of massage.2. In fifty ancient books from "Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine", the therapy of diabetes mellitus about acupuncture and moxibution appears as early as Jin Dynasty. There are 8 clauses about it. Ming Dynasty was the peak of it,115 clauses about it. 3. There are 225 clauses about treating diabetes mellitus in fifty ancient books collected in "Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine". There are 49 acupoints used altogether. The prescription can be divided into single-point prescription, couple-point prescription and multiple-point prescription. Single-pointprescription was the main stream therapy. Among the 49 acupoints the ones that appear the most are Chengjiang, Rangu.Shuigiu, Taixi, Xingjian and Shrnshu. The single-point prescription are 24 points, ones that parents the most are Rangu, Taixi and Shuigiu. There are 10 couple-point prescriptions; the most showed are Xingjian-Yangquan. And there are 38 multiple-point prescriptions; the most showed are JinjinYuye, Chengjiang, Haiquan, Shuigiu, Lianquan, Qihai, Shenshu and Shuigiu, Chengjiang, Jinjin Yuye, Quchi, Laogong, Taichong, Xingjian, Shangqiu, Rangu and Yinbai. Conclusion1. Study on selecting local acupointPricking blood therapy more select the points near the mouth, because of the most common symptoms were thirsty.2. Study on selecting acupoint along channelsAdopting more points of back-shu points in the urinary bladder meridian. There were Feishu, Pishu, Shenshu, Weishu, Dachangshu, Xiaochangshu, Sanjiaoshu and Pangguangshu, while associated with metabolism of body fluid.3. Study on the cause of selecting acupointTraditional theory considered the pathogenesis of diabetes was mainly fever and dryness due to yin deficiency. Therefore adopting more purging heat and nourishing yin points. The purging heat points were less used in clinic. Perhaps the longer course of diabetes disease or have taken too much of the other drugs made the typical dryness-heat was not obvious. More focusing on the spleen, stomach, kidneys and liver in ancient Chinese literature about acupuncture and moxibustion. The occurrence and development of diabetes are closely related to emotional factors. Stagnation of qi turning into fire due to emotional depression. In recent years syndrome of stagnation of liver qi is a common symptom with Diabetes in clinic. While the complexity of Diabetes management and its complicating diseases made the patient feel depression and cause stagnation of liver qi.4. The suggested prescription of acupuncture and moxibution in treating diabetes mellitus is: (1) Nourishing yin and clearing heatThe suggested points include Taixi (KI3), Sanyinjiao(SP6), Zhongwan(CV12), Xingjian (LR2), and Weiwanxiashu.(2) Tonifying qi and nourishing yinThe suggested points include Pishu(BL 20), Shenshu(BL23), Qihai(CV6), Zhongwan (CV12), Zusanli (ST36), Taixi (KI3), and Weiwanxiashu.(3) Soothing the liver and resolving depressionThe suggested points include Ganshu(BL 18), Qimen (LR14), Xingjian (LR2), Taichong(LR3), Neiguan(PC 6), andSanjiaoshu(BL 22).(4) Remove obstruction from the fu organs and reduce heatThe suggested points include Weishu(BL 21), Pishu(BL20), Zusanli (ST36), and Zhongwan (CV12).
