Objective to evaluate whether papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) tissues express a different pattern of chemokine receptor CCR7 and if the expression of CCR7 correlates with clinicopathological characteristics as well as the expression of Ki-67 in tumors.MethodsThe expression of the chemokine receptor CCR7 in PTC and nonmalignant thyroid tissues was assessed by immunohistochemistry. Expression of the receptor in PTC was correlated with the clinical pathological condition of cancer and the expression of Ki-67.ResultsA significant enhancement of CCR7 expression in PTC tissues as determined by immunohistochemical staining compared to controls. In addition, expression of CCR7 correlated with the lymphnodes metastasis of PTC. However, expression of CCR7 did not relate to Ki-67 expression. ConclusionCCR7 is increasingly expressed in tumor cells from PTC and that CCR7 expression in PTC could be a potential marker for enhanced tumor aggressiveness, in particular, lymphnodes metastasis.
