ObjectiveTo investigate the correlation between the angle of deviation and degree of pneumatization and the correlation between the degree of pneumatization and the nasosinus CT Lund-Mackay grade.MethodsComputerized tomography scans of the paranasal sinuses of 544 patients with septal deviation were taken. concha bullosa (CB),sinusitis and septal deviation were recorded, analyzed the correlation between the angle of deviation and degree of pneumatization.ResultsAngles of deviation ranged between 2.2 and 19.2 degrees. The mean of angle of deviation in cases with CB and in cases without CB was (11.22±2.93) and (11.18±3.26) degrees, respectively. No statistical difference was found between them (P> 0.05). Pneumatization of the contralateral CB was statistically significantly higher than that of ipsilateral CB (P<0.05). Controlateral CB pneumatization has liner correlation with Lund-Mackay grade (r=0.39, P<0.05). ConclusionSeptal deviation does not appear to give rise to the formation of CB, but augments the pneumatization of the middle turbinate depending on the degree of deviation angle. Concha Bullosa takes part in the sinusitis progression.
