With the medical model developing from biomedicine model to biological- psychology - Social Medicine model, social support have a significant effect on physical and mental health has been studied, results showed that inferiority of social relations is harmful to health, then the quality of life is affected directly. With the development of medical technology, the life quality of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients are getting more and more people's attention, and the concern of social support conditions for patients plays a key role for the development of targeted interventions, improving social support level of patients and the quality of life.Purpose:The purpose of this article is to understand the social support status and the life quality about the nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with radiotherapy; to explore the relationship between the social support and the quality of life. The social support situation of the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma is specially analyzed to improve their life quality, and to provide new information.Method:120 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with radiotherapy who were in Jilin Province Tumor Hospital and the Cancer Treatment Center of Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital, Jilin University, from June 2008 to June 2009 were investigated as the target audience. The investigation was carried out with self-compiled questionnaire on the general condition of patient information, social support rating scale (SSRS) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL-100) to assess the social support and life conditions of the patients, and obtain the statistical analysis of the data. Result:①The total score of social support on the nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with radiotherapy is 42.37±5.28, which is higher than the domestic norm. The single-factor analysis of Social support showed that the subjective support points and the degree of the support utilization of male patients are significantly low, P <0.05; The objective support points and the subjective support points of <60-year-old patients were significantly higher than which of the elderly, P <0.05; The objective support points, the subjective support points and the degree of the support utilization of the patients with≥junior school education and married were significantly high, P <0.05; The objective support points, the subjective support points of the incumbent patients were higher than which of unemployed patients, P <0.05; The objective support points and the subjective support points of the patients whose income are over $1000 a month were significantly lower than low-income earners, P <0.05. There are three dimensions in social support, which are objective support, subjective support and the degree of the support utilization in specific investigations options analysis: In an objective support, some people were supported in the spiritual and economic aspects, but few of them (4.2%) received the support of religious, social groups and other non-official organizations; only 25% of family members– parents give full support to the patients in subjective support;in the degree of the support utilization, 37.5% of patients have never taken part in any activity of the organizations.②The life quality scores of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with radiotherapy compared to domestic norm and foreign norm in all areas, there is no statistically signification in the different of environment section such as housing conditions, accessing new information, environmental and traffic conditions, P> 0.05; the other parts were significantly different, P <0.001. The scores of six areas in life quality were lower than the domestic norm, P <0.05.③The correlation analysis of social support and quality of life showed: objective support, subjective support, the degree of the support utilization and life conditions are significantly related, P <0.05. Conclusion:The aspects of subjective support points and the support utilization degree of male patients, The aspects of objective support of patients over 60-year-old; The aspects of objective support , subjective support and support utilization of patients with junior school education and without a spouse; the aspects of objective support, subjective support of unemployed patients; medical personnel, family members and community groups should give targeted social support in objective support, subjective support of the unemployed patients, in order to enhance the social support of the patients and then improve the patients'life quality.
