Larynx, which locates in the important of head and neck, is the key organ of respiration, voice, and communnication. Laryngeal cancer is one of the most common malignancy in head and neck. The incidence increases at present. The disease leads to personal mental and body health troubles, causes personal appearance changes, and disturbs personal, family, and ecnomic life, which affects quality of life. Modern medical pattern has changed to biology-psychology-social pattern.Health concepts renew. Health evaluation not only includes the biological parameters for organ function, but also psychological and social parameters to gain the whole data. Quality of life(QOL), a complex index which appears in the background of health improvement and health concepts renewing, draws more and more attention of people. Nowadays many researches in quality of life of diseases have applied in the evaluation of cancer and chronic diseases clinical trials, and treatment strategies. With the improvements of social ecnomical development and medical care level, the goal of cancer therapy shifts from the survival or survival without diseases to maintain the quality of life, which is one of the most topics in modern rehabilitation medicine. As a negative living incidence, cancer leads pesrsonal psychological reaction and causes severe psychosomatic problems. Social supports and reaction pattern, as intermediate variables to living incidence and reaction, affect the psychological reaction process of cancer patients, lead to psychosomatic symptoms, and cause troubles to patients and their family. Quality of life includes not only body phisiological function, but also psychological and social factors. Among the three factors, social factors play a key role in the quality of life of cancer patients. Many researches have been done on social supports and reaction pattern. Social supports indicate the relationship between an individual and the society. Reaction is the personal regulative behavior to environmental changes. These two factors are the important factors that affect the result of reaction. The incidence of depression in laryngeal cancer patients is high, while the social supports are used less. In order to improve the quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients, the patients' knowledge of the disease should be improved, social supports system should be constructed to provide better social supports, the potential of patients should be developed, and the confidence of patients should be build up.The objective of the research is to find out the relationship of quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients with social supports and reaction pattern. Method: 75 laryngeal cancer patients were investigated with IES-C, EORTCQLQ-H&N35, and SSRS. Statistical analysis was carried out. Results: i. The laryngeal function(P<0.001), body status(P<0.001), independent living ability(P<0.05), mental health level(P<0.01), and the whole quality of life(P<0.001) in partial laryngectomy patients were better than those in total laryngectomy patients. There was not statistically significant difference in social relationship between the two groups(P>0.05). ii. The objective score, subjective score, utility rate, and total score of social supports were negative related to incidence impact(P<0.05). The active reaction of laryngeal patients was negative related to the aspects of incidence impact(P<0.05), while the passive reaction was positive related to that(P<0.05). iii. The total score of quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients was significantly negative related to the objective factors in social supports(P<0.001) while was significantly related to subjective factors and the utility rate of social supports(P<0.001). Conclusion: The reactive ability of laryngeal cancer patients to incidence impact was in a middle or low level; The social supports and reaction pattern were positive related with quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients in a middle level; The quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients was in middle to low level;Laryngeal cancer patients the availability of social support were in the low level;A positive way to deal with laryngeal cancer patients can effectively increase the availability of social support;Social support system can effectively improve the quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients. The creation of the research is as following: The incidence impact, social supports, and reaction pattern of laryngeal cancer patients were surveyed with IES-C, EORTCQLQ-H&N35, and SSRS, belonging to the quality of life methods. The factors to evaluate the quality of life of laryngeal cancer patients were gained to reflect the quality of life of the patients. The cases included in the research were less. More cases should be added. Long term chases of patients' symptoms, social supports, reaction pattern, and quality of life should be conducted to obtain the best support and care inally to gain the goal of improving the quality of life of patients.
