Objective To compare the value of tropicamide and atropine ophthalmic solution in mydriatic refractometry for juvernile hyperopia, and to know the scope of tropicamide mydrsis in juvernile hyperopia. Methods A total of 166 young patients with hyperopia(300 eyes) were subjected to retinoscopy after tropicamide and atropia mydriasis. Results of spherical and cylinder were compared using self-paired t test.Statistical analyscs were performed using SPSS12.0 statistics software. Results In children 12~15 years old with mild hyperopia who were no significant difference(P>0. 05) between the two kind of mydriatic..In children 4~years old and children 8~years old with hyperopia and children 12~15 years old with moderate and high hyperopia showed significant difference(P<0.05) between the two kind of mydriatic. The change of the astigmatism group showed no statistical difference(P>0.05) between the two kind of mydriatic..Conclusion Tropicamide was shown to be an ideal drug for mydriatic optometry in children 12-15 years old with mild hypermetropia. Therefore atropine is a effective cycloplegic agent for the children 4- years old hypermetropia and children 12-15 years old with moderate and high hyperopia.Specialinstance when we can not use the atropine to dilate the pupil for hypermetropia children, using the tropicamide are allowed. The following conditions must be mydrisis use atropine:1) pre-school children hyperopia;2) school age children hyperopia with esophoria.
