Objective To study expression and clinical significance of GLUT3( Glucose transporter protein 3) and NGF(nerve growth factor)in glioma,and to analyze the dependability at the same time.Methods 90 glioma cases including 18 gradeⅠ, 28 gradeⅡ, 27 gradeⅢand 17 gradeⅣgliomas and ten human common cerebral tissue were examined for GLUT3 and NGF expression by immunohisto- chemical method(Envision). Results 1 The GLUT3 in the gradeⅠ,gradeⅡ,gradeⅢand gradeⅣgliomas were respectively expressed as 19.74±5.25,30.22±11.79,38.69±16.35 and 59.10±21.60,,and there was no expression of GLUT3 in nomal cerebral tissues; the expression of GLUT3 increased gradually with the rise of pathological grade of glioma; and the difference of GLUT3 in every two groups was significant (X2=16.115,P<0.001). The positive expression rate of GLUT3 in the gradeⅠ,gradeⅡ,gradeⅢand gradeⅣgliomas were 33.33%,60.71%,77.78%,100%,the difference in every two groups was significant (F=23.00,P<0.05).The positive expression rate of gradeⅣgliomas was more than the rate of grade I, grade II,grade III gliomas.The rate of grade III gliomas was more than the rate of grade I,II gliomas.The rate of grade II gliomas was more than the rate of I grade gliomas.The positive expression rate of GLUT3 increase gradually with the rise of pathological grade of glioma。The expression of GLUT3 in gliomas was not related with the patients' age ( X 2=0.68, P=0.41>0.05 ) ,sex ( X 2=0.44 ,P=0.51>0.05 ) ,size ( X 2=0.27, P=0.61>0.05)and location(X2=0.54 ,P=0.99>0.05).2 The NGF in the gradeⅠ,gradeⅡ,gradeⅢand gradeⅣgliomas were respectively expressed as 17.40±5.45,28.56±10.83,37.35±17.07 and 50.62±22.50,and there was 5.26±0.82 of NGF in nomal cerebral tissues; the expression of NGF increased gradually with the rise of pathological grade of glioma; and the difference of NGF in every two groups was significantly (X2=14.729,P<0.01). The positive expression rate of NGF in the gradeⅠ,gradeⅡ, gradeⅢand gradeⅣgliomas were 27.78%,57.14%,74.07%,94.12%. The differ- ence in every two groups was significant (F=20.49,P<0.001).The positive expression rate of gradeⅣgliomas was more than the rate of grade I,II,III gliomas.The rate of grade III gliomas was more than the rate of grade I,II gliomas. The rate of grade II gliomas was more than the rate of I grade gliomas. The positive expression rate of NGF gradually increased with the rise of pathological grade of glioma.The expression of NGF in gliomas was not related with the patients' age( X2=0.081, P=0.776>0.05),sex(X2= 0.001, P=0.977>0.05),size(X2=0.569, P=0.451>0.05).And it is not related with the location(X2=0.893, P=0.345>0.05), but which lies in the ventricle are lower than that lies in the other place(X2=6.696,P=0.010<0.05,X2=5.495,P=0.019<0.05). 3 The expression of GLUT3 was correlated positively in glioma with the expression of NGF(r=0.830,p<0.001). Conclusions 1 GLUT3 and NGF was expressed respectively as a consistent feature of cerebral tumor especially in glioma ,and its expression level performed a positive relation in glioma which indicated there may exist certain regular mechanisms between them in glioma as well. The expression of GLUT3 and NGF in glioma was correlated significantly to tumors' pathology grade and prognosis, it can be taken as an useful marker for predicting the biological behavior and the prognosis of glioma.Further studying the mechanisms about the expression and regulation of GLUT3 and NGF in glioma , it would lead to find new ways of treating gliomas.
