A Preliminary Clinical Study Of "Xingnao Jieyu Particle" On Post-stroke Depression

Objective:To observe the efficacy of "Xingnao Jieyu particle" on post-stroke depression (PSD) in order to find out a new method of TCM treatment on PSD.Methods:60 cases selected on the diagnosis criteria of PSD were randomly divided into treatment group and control group with each group of 30 .The former was given with "Xingnao Jieyu particles" on the basic therapy of cerebral infarction.The latter was given nothing except psychological health education. The basic therapy of cerebral infarction included the antihypertension, antithrombotic and neuroprotection, etc.Hamilton Depression Rating Scale was used to evaluate the degree of depression separately before and after 4 weeks of treatment. At the same time, the adrenocorticotropic hormone, triiodothyronine, thyroxineand homocysteine levels in plasma were detected.Results:1,Compared to the basic line, the scores of Hamilton Depression Rating Scalewere significantly decreased at the end of 4 weeks of study in both groups (P <0.05).2,The total effective rate was 93.3% in the treatment group, which is significantlyhigher than that in the control group( 66.7%,P<0.05).3,Hcy levels in plasma were markedly reduced in both groups (P <0.01). But thedegree of decline in treatment group was greater than the control group (P <0.05).4,There were no significant change of ACTH, T₃ and T₄ levels during the 4 weeksof study in two groups (P> 0.05).Conclusion:The preliminary study showed that the "Xingnao Jieyu particle" has effective for PSD, but the mechanism is needed further study..
