Object and Method: The article which was based on classical Chinese medicine books, studied the laws of preventing and treating large intestine's cancer and the characters in each epoch from the Chun Qiu Zhan Guo to the Yuan Dynasty. From the history of the name, the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, diagnosis and differentiation of symptoms, signs and methods of treatment, the formulas and herbs of preventing and treating the disease .We hope to discover the law of the scientific developing.Conclusions: In ancient, it had been thinked that the etiology of large intestine's cancer was mainly related to the factors of diet, habitation, external evils (coldness, dampness, heat, toxin, etc.), heredity, emotions and lack of vital-qi, etc. And the syndrome of large intestine's cancer was the primary deficiency and the secondary excess mostly, its management principle was softing the tumour, eliminating the stagnant and activating the blood, eliminating the wind and sputum, etc. Among them, the most importanttherapy was eliminating the sputum and the stagnant.Between the Chun Qiu Zhan Guo epoch and the Yuan Dynasty, the mainlaw of prevention and treatment for large intestine's cancer was phlegmretention and stagnant blood theories. Development course: it originated from the pre-Qin Dynasty, formed in the Han Dynasty primarily, developed in the Jin, Sui and Tang Dynasty, and matured in the Song , Jin and Yuan Dynasty primarily.Before the Ming Dynasty, the development of surgical procedure and anaesthetization had become into being mature relatively. To perform open abdomen surgery was fact in ancient. In future, we should make great efforts to inherit and improve on it.
