Clinical Observation Of The Application Of Homemade Hydrophobic Acrylic Foldable Intraocular Lens

Objective To observe the clinical curative effects and complications of implanting homemade hydrophobic acrylic foldable IOL after the extraction of cataract and evaluate its quality comprehensively.Methods 60 cases(60 eyes) of senile cataract were randomized to two groups and operated with phacoemulsification and IOL implantation, 30 cases(30 eyes) in each group. These patients had been implanted Homemade hydrophobic acrylic foldable IOL or implanted foreign ones of the same kind respectively. Follow-up visits 3 months were done after surgery to observe the recovery of visual acuity and early complications. The results were analyzed statistically.Results Best corrected distance visual acuity 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after operation were 0.79±0.14, 0.84±0.13 and 0.86±0.13 respectively in homemade group, and were 0.83±0.16, 0.86±0.11 and 0.88±0.11 in foreign group, while best corrected near visual acuity were 2.95±0.62 , 2.89±0.57 and 2.89±0.57 respectively in homemade group, and were 2.90±0.46, 2.89±0.46 and 2.89±0.46 in foreign group, there were no significant differences after operation between two groups regarding best corrected distance visual acuity and best corrected near visual acuity (p>0.05). Preoperative and 1 week ,1 month, 3 months after operation, the central endothelial cell density were 2527.3±439.6, 2144.3±457.2, 2176.3±456.6 and 2196.3±458.7 cells/mm~2 respectively in homemade group, and were 2639.3±403.5, 2327.3±433.7, 2348.3±435.4 and 2368.3±437.4 cells/mm~2 in foreign group , there were no significant differences between the two groups (p>0.05) . Postoperativeiy, the density of endothelial cells on 1 week ,1 month ,3 months decreased by 382.8±87.9 cells/mm~2 (15.7±5.1%), 351.1±86.8 cells/mm~2 (14.4±5.0%) and 330.7±86.8 cells/mm~2 (13.6±4.9%) respectively in homemade group and 312.6±103.0 cells/mm~2(12.2±4.7%), 291.3±103.0 cells/mm~2 (11.4±4.7%) and 271.3±104.5 cells/mm~2(10.6±4.7%) in foreign group , there were no significant differences between the two groups (p> 0.05 ) .There were no severe complications in operation and postoperation,and there were also no vision symptoms in the follow-up visit in all the cases of two groups.Conclusion The implantation of homemade hydrophobic acrylic foldable IOL can improve visual acuity of patients rapidly and significantly. No severe complications happened in operation and postoperation. The homemade hydrophobic acrylic IOL is convenient to use and easy to spread ,especially for its cheap price,so it can bring gospel for the impoverished patients.
