ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the paraoxonase1 Gln-Arg 192 polymorphism (PON1Q/R192) and cerebral infarction in the elderly and the blood lipids.MethodsThis was a case-control study, which enrolled 193 cases with cerebral infarction and 204 elderly healthy controls. Polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragments length polymorphism was used to determine PON1Q/R192. The patients with cerebral infarction were diagnosed by the standard of the fourth cerebral vascular conference. CT/MRI showed that the largest infarction area was 15mm.Basic data of the study objects were collected by questionnaire.ResultsThe PON1Q/R192 genotype distribution in the cerebral infarction group study was QQ9.8%, QR42.0% and RR48.2%, respectively. There was no significant difference in PON1Q/R192 allele and genotype distribution between the cerebral infarction group and the control group. No significant association between Q/R192 genotype and the profile of blood lipids was detected. Logistic regression showed that there was no correlation between Q/R192 genotype and the profile of blood lipids too.ConclusionThese results suggested that the PON1Q/R192 gene polymorphism was not associated with cerebral infarction in the elderly and the blood lipids.
