With the continued global growth of medical expenses, the use of economic assessment is needed to guide decision-makers to allocate the constraints of health investment. There is a growing interest in contingent valuation method (CVM) in the economic evaluation of health care technologies, which measures all costs and consequences of technologies in monetary terms. CVM for a technology and its effects based on individual's preferences, can further be linked to either observed market behaviors or to responses to hypothetical market.This thesis is about the study on the contingent valuation method (CVM) in health care is defined here as a survey-based, hypothetical and direct method used for eliciting a monetary value of a health care technology. First of all, the author introduces the Principles of the CVM, the elicitation methods and bias. In China, as CVM in the field of health care is still at the initial stage, the author overviewed the application of CVM in the field of foreign health economics, and made a summary of the characteristics of CVM. Despite the acceptance that health gain is the most important attribute of health care, other aspects of health care may affect utility.As Chinese medical and health reform, increase community health service input and become an important trend. The author analysis the characteristics of community health services and assess the economic value of community-based therapeutic of cancer patients. So the author expects to provide methodologies and relevant information for the CVM application in China's health economics, and provide the reference of the evaluation of the community health's economics value.
